The puzzle pieces are beginning to come together, but there’s still plenty left to discover following the release of a brand-new teaser for Weapons. Taking to social media, the film’s studio, New Line Cinema, shared another clue about the madness that’s set to unfold when Zach Cregger returns for his sophomore feature-length directorial project. Starring Julia Garner (Fantastic Four), we might not see any of the other incredibly famous faces that fill out the mysterious horror thriller, but the sneak peek certainly gets us up-close-and-personal with the Ozark alum.
Leaning into the fictional missing children’s case that has been at the center of the marketing team’s promotion for the film, the teaser shows various newspaper clippings that have all been written about the night a group of children disappeared into the dark. The excerpts walk viewers through the details of the case, following law enforcement’s snap to action in hopes of sniffing out a trail, the creation of a tipline, and an upcoming community meeting at the local school. Then, we see Garner’s Justine Gandy come into the frame, as she approaches a house and peers through a curtain break in one of the windows before the teaser cuts to black.
While we don’t know what the character saw when she looked into the home, we’d imagine that she’s looking for answers just like the rest of the town. In the case of Ms. Gandy, she might be looking harder than everyone else, as the missing kids are from her class where all but one student vanished into the night. But, as the film’s director previously stated, the story of the lost children is just the tip of the iceberg, with plenty of other mysteries afoot.
“That mystery is going to propel you through at least half of the movie, but that is not the movie. The movie will fork and change and reinvent and go in new places. It doesn’t abandon that question, believe me, but that’s not the whole movie at all. By the midpoint, we’ve moved on to way crazier s— than that.”
Who Else Is In ‘Weapons’?
As we mentioned above, Garner is but one of the cherries on top of the delightful cake that is Weapons. The critically acclaimed actress will be joined by the likes of Josh Brolin (Outer Range), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Alden Ehrenreich (Cocaine Bear), June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie), Cary Christopher (High Potential), Amy Madigan (Uncle Buck), Whitmer Thomas (#1 Happy Family USA), Clayton Farris (MaXXXine), Toby Huss (King of the Hill), and more.
Check out the new teaser for Weapons above and see it in cinemas on August 8.
