Per ComicBook, the two shows have joined the July roster of Disney-owned FXX. The 10-episode-long first seasons of X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will air throughout the week, two episodes back to back, concluding with their respective season finales on Friday, July 4. Given that the animated shows are on the platform for a limited time only, fans should binge as and when they arrive.
What Are ‘X-Men 97’ and ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ About?
X-Men 97 marks Marvel Studios’ first project from the IP, previously held by Fox. It is a direct continuation of the OG X-Men: The Animated Series that ran between 1992 and 1997. The first season focuses on the X-Men navigating a world without Professor X (Ross Marquand). As they deal with the aftermath of his departure, the team faces new threats like the resurgence of Sentinels. The season explores similar themes of loss, grief, and leadership as its predecessor and sees the X-Men trying to protect a world that both fears and hates them. The fans of the original show really connected with the new series, which has a 99 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating. A second season is yet to drop in 2026 with a third one under development.
Created by Jeff Trammell, Your Friendly Spider-Man is set in an alternate universe where Peter Parker (Hudson Thames) is mentored by Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) rather than Tony Stark. While the live-action MCU did not give us an origin story for Peter, the animated series focuses on it and shows us new dimensions to his story. The series delights with an exploration of his early superhero career, focusing on his relationships with friends like Lonnie (Eugene Byrd) and his crush Pearl (Cathy Ang). The first season has a 97 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is loved by fans and critics for its slick animation style, interesting takes, and new characters.
Catch X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on FXX. The series are also available to stream on Disney+. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
