Will There Be a Sinners 2? Everything Director Ryan Coogler Has Said

Sinners is one of the most buzz-worthy movies of 2025, courtesy of the film’s incredibly talented cast and alluring story that perfectly combines elements of history and horror. Fans are hoping for a sequel to director Ryan Coogler’s masterpiece, which stars Michael B. Jordan as the Smokestack Twins.

Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell and Wunmi Mosaku round out the main cast of the vampire drama. The film depicts the story of the Smokestack Twins as they open a juke joint in Mississippi and ultimately come face to face with vampires who force them to resort to dramatic survival tactics.

Sinners is already being predicted as a major Oscars contender after seeing groundbreaking success at the box office, with many hoping Jordan will finally earn his first Academy Award as a result of the smash hit.

“I haven’t even begun to reckon with the fact that this movie is No. 1,” Coogler told Forbes in April 2025 after the film shot to the top spot at the domestic box office following its release that month. “It’s crazy. This movie is about, like, my uncle. It is bizarre, but when I think about it, when I take my feelings out of it, I’m not surprised.”

Ryan Coogler Shared Thoughts on Possible ‘Sinners’ Sequel

Unfortunately for fans, Coogler shot down speculation about there being a Sinners 2.

“I never think about that,” he told EBONY in April 2025.

“I’ve been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that,” the director added. “I was looking forward to working on a film that felt original and personal to me and had an appetite for delivering something to audiences that was original and unique.”

Coogler is the man responsible for two great film franchises, Black Panther and Creed, both of which Jordan was also a part of. When it came to Sinners, Coogler intended on there only being one stand-alone movie.

“I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal: your appetizers, starters, entrees and desserts, I wanted all of it there,” he told the outlet. “I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. That was always my intention.”
