Tom Hardy’s, 47, Hit Crime Drama Is Overtaken by Foul-Mouthed Tweens on Streaming

Tom Hardy is a force to be reckoned with in everyone’s current favorite original Paramount+ series that now has a sophomore season on the way. Another of Guy Ritchie’s sophisticated takes on gangsters, MobLand, premiered on the streamer on March 30, with episodes releasing weekly through June 1. In the series, Hardy portrays Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan crime family. MobLand was an immediate success upon its release, trending on streaming charts both within the UK and globally, even becoming the most-watched show on Paramount+ as of June 23.

The days of MobLand topping the streaming charts now seem to be over, as another series has taken the spot, beating the crime drama’s 205 points with 266 points, according to FlixPatrol. South Park is the series dominating the Paramount+ TV streaming charts worldwide, ahead of its twenty-seventh season’s arrival later this month. MobLand, on the other hand, is now in second place, followed by Blue Bloods, Yellowstone, and 1996’s Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, to make up the top 5.

South Park Season 27 premieres on July 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, a disappointing shift from the original July 9 release. Trey Parker and Matt Stone created the chaotic animation, while Brian Graden developed it for Comedy Central. Popular for its dark humor and poking fun at numerous real-world issues, it follows the misadventures of four irreverent grade-schoolers in the quiet, dysfunctional town of South Park, Colorado. So far, the sitcom has 328 broadcast episodes that have featured the voices of creators Parker and Stone, alongside April Stewart and Mona Marshall.

‘MobLand’ Premiered With a Massive Bang on Paramount+

Although MobLand is not at the top spot on the streaming charts, it remains one of Paramount+’s most successful shows of the year. At the time of its premiere, it broke the streamer’s record for its largest global series launch ever, with 2.2 million viewers. Critics also gave it a 75% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while commending Hardy’s “gruff charisma” and describing the series as “a gangster saga that hardly reinvents the genre but nails its conventions with crunchy style and memorable performances.” MobLand also stars Pierce Brosnan as Conrad, who heads the Harrigan family; Helen Mirren as his wife, Maeve; Paddy Considine as Kevin, their son and Harry’s buddy; and Joanne Froggatt as Harry’s wife, Jan.

All episodes of the gangster series are streaming on Paramount+. Stay tuned to Collider for further details about its next season.
