When it comes to Big Brother, there is always going to be some sort of theme that the Houseguests will have to navigate. Whether it involves around the actual players or the twists and turns, the theme truly dictates how the summer fun is had. Not every theme lasts all the way through, as the vocal fans sometimes influence the real-time game, but when a theme works, like last season, it makes the show exuberantly better.
With Big Brother 27 less than a month away, fans are already speculating what might be brewing inside the BB house. After dropping exclusive key-centric key art, everyone is wondering if there are clues in plain sight. Last season, the theme centered on AI, and the preseason promo art featured a technology-based design. With that in mind, it’s time to examine what we might be up for this season. But don’t forget, expect the unexpected!
‘Big Brother’ Is Unlocked New Secrets
To get the obvious out of the way, the only way to enter the Big Brother house is to receive the coveted key. And it’s all right there in the image for the upcoming season. From there, there are 48 keys in total. Fans of the show know that it’s always important to pay attention to everything, which often includes counting items, so will 48 have a key to the clue? We won’t start with 48 players, right? That would be way too intense. That’s a wild theory out the window. Additionally, we know that if your key is in the box, you head is on the chopping block. Maybe we can hope that the old nomination ceremony ritual of the turntable key wheel reveal will return! Then, looking specifically at the keys, there are a series of repeated vintage-inspired keys, which are much different than the ones we’re used to seeing the Houseguests holding on premiere night.
Speaking to Dalton Ross of Entertainment Weekly, hostess Julie Chen Moonves said, “The keys to unlocking unexpected mysteries in the Big Brother house are right in front of you!” The Executive Producers, Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan, continued to key into vague clues. “The key to a perfect summer is no mystery. Get ready to unlock the most unexpected season of Big Brother yet!’ they said. Isn’t that what they always say? Now, we do know that this season, we’ll have a new bi-weekly Friday show called Big Brother Unlocked. Could that play into the twist at all? Maybe the keyholders could have the opportunity to speak with alum for advice!
Perhaps the key to the theme is what these keys can unlock. Is Julie standing in a key room? Will these keys unlock certain parts of the house during the season? Could there be keys for doors that lead to rooms with advantages or disadvantages? Let’s just hope that there’s not a key that will unleash the terror that was JANKIE World on us all! But let’s be honest, the finale promised the little robot’s return, so expect the expected.

The Best ‘Big Brother’ Themes in History
With the Big Brother socials officially bringing the key into their profile pictures, fans have brought an array of theories to the comment section. But first, the account trolled us all with their comment, “the clues were all there!! 🤭🤭🤭” One person wrote, “There’s 8 pairs of keys facing each other. 16 houseguests coming in as duos.” We have certainly seen duos in the game. In fact, Big Brother 6, which featured secret pairs, is regarded as one of the best and influential seasons of all time. We had previously been assured that we would not have any returning players, so it’s likely we won’t have a split house of old and new houseguests. Some fans felt that the key art was given mansion or princess vibes. Could that be it?
No matter what this theme is, we know how a great theme can help make or break a season. In the early days of the game, the show really leaned heavily on wild themes. Big Brother 4 featured The Ex-Factor, where certain Houseguests were forced to play alongside their exes. Big Brother 5 introduced Project DNA, where a set of twins swapped in and out with one another, and unbeknownst, half-siblings were inside the house together. Later on in the run, the show tried everything from dividing Houseguests by school clique for Big Brother 11, the ill-fated BB Takeover during Big Brother 17, and turning the BB house into Summer Camp for Big Brother 21. We’ll see if Big Brother 27 has the key to success!
