‘The View’s Sunny Hostin Reveals She Almost Died on Air

Live TV scares are rare on The View, but this one nearly turned deadly. The long-running talk show is known for its spirited debates and smooth production—but even a well-oiled machine can have a near-catastrophe. That’s exactly what happened during a recent episode when former co-host Debbe Matenopoulos returned to share dishes from her new cookbook Greekish. What no one expected was that a single ingredient would send Sunny Hostin into panic mode—because it could have cost her life.

On the Friday edition of the longtime talk show, Sunny revealed that she almost died during the segment. At first, it seemed like Sunny might have choked, but it was then revealed she’s actually allergic to walnuts. While she described the incident, The View flashed back to the segment in question, showing Sunny’s reaction to Alyssa Farah Griffin asking Debbie if the dish had walnuts. In that moment, Sunny’s face dropped to pure terror as she wrote a note to Alyssa saying, “I’m allergic to walnuts.”

Sunny Revealed What Happened Live at ‘The View’ Table

Following a discussion about the unexpected reactions to men’s penises and Ozempic, Sunny revealed her unexpected reaction from earlier this week. “I have a terrible allergy to walnuts,” she shared. “And as I’m eating the food, Alyssa asks, ‘Are those walnuts in here?’ and she said yes. So I panic immediately, and I write, ‘I’m allergic to walnuts.'” In the video, viewers can see the panic on Sunny’s face, as well as a brief glimpse of the “Death Note.” Alyssa’s reaction in the moment was simply, “Oh no!” Sunny got the attention of executive producer Brian Teta to alert him of the potential fatality. If you watch the original clip, it didn’t make it, but thanks to television magic, The View gave us a peek behind the scenes.
