The ‘Supernatural’ Trio Is Excited For You to See Their “Very Different” Reunion on ‘The Boys’

As part of The Boys’ fandom, we at Collider are certainly looking forward to quite a bit of the show’s upcoming fifth and final season. We will be sad to see it go, but when it comes to a series as perfect and well-crafted as this one, it’s best to allow Eric Kripke and the rest of the team to give it a Vikings burial rather than let it become the very thing it’s making fun of. And, although moments like the inevitable Butcher (Karl Urban) vs. Homelander (Antony Starr) showdown are certainly keeping us on pins and needles, there’s another part that is really holding onto our attention — the Supernatural reunion.

Since it was announced that not only would Jensen Ackles be reprising his role as Soldier Boy for the final go-around, but that his Supernatural pals, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, would come along for the ride, fans of Kripke’s long-running CW series have been giddy with excitement. During a recent chat with TV Insider, during which the trio were celebrating the 20th anniversary of Supernatural’s pilot, they opened up about what it was like getting back to work with one another just on a very different Kripke-backed project.

“Regressing,” Collins said, with all three men breaking out into laughter, as one word clearly defined their joint experience. Chiming in, Ackles added,

“Total regressing! We were asked that question on set by people there going, ‘What’s it like for you guys being back together?’ But we still see each other all the time, and we know what’s going on in each other’s lives. So when we were back on set, it was just very natural and very familiar.”

As witty as ever, Padalecki tossed in, “Super natural,” to laughter from Ackles, who added, “It was supernatural!”

Who Will the ‘Supernatural’ Boys Play in ‘The Boys’?

For now, the only certainty as far as casting is considered is Ackles, who will reprise his role as Soldier Boy. The character was first introduced during the show’s third season and, because his fate was left on a cliffhanger during that year’s finale, we long expected him to turn up down the line. In the Season 4 finale, we learned that not only was Soldier Boy still alive (just on ice), but that his son, Homelander (Starr), now knew the truth and was coming up with some diabolical plans for his pops.

As for Collins and Padalecki, it isn’t public knowledge yet as to who they’ll portray, but Kripke previously teased that all three would appear in a scene together. Admitting that they each played their new The Boys characters as their respective Supernatural personalities, Collins said,

We did end up doing a take in character as Cass, Sam, and Dean. And that’s probably the one they’re going to use.”

We’ll happily be the first to start the petition to release the Supernatural cut.

Supernatural is now streaming on Netflix.
