It might still be a long way out before Godzilla x Kong: Supernova roars into theaters, but any sort of update on a MonsterVerse project is always welcome. Filming on the sixth installment of the franchise kicked off in April on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Fans even got an early look at the production when a set video depicting a disaster scene in London surfaced on social media, showing just how nicely the action was progressing. Now, three months in, the Australian leg of filming has wrapped, and production has shifted stateside in what is likely the final stretch of filming before the production segues into the post-production phase.
The latest update comes via a social media post from Ann Foley, one of the film’s costume designers. “That’s a wrap on Australia. Next up, Utah,” she wrote, pairing the announcement with a humorous meme of three disheveled kittens to communicate just how grueling the shooting experience has been. The film, a direct sequel to 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is directed by Grant Sputore from a script by David Callaham and Michael Lloyd Green. Plot details continue to remain under lock and key, however, early speculation teases that Supernova will stay true to its title, introducing a new set of human characters as they, alongside the titular Titans, face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.
The cast for Godzilla x Kong: Supernova won’t be entirely new as the project has confirmed the return of Dan Stevens, who debuted in the fifth film to reprise his role as veterinarian Trapper. Some of the new faces joining him for the next adventure have been unveiled, and they include Kaitlyn Dever, who recently played Abby in The Last of Us Season 2, and Jack O’Connell, who recently played the Irish Vampire Remmick in Sinners. Others include Delroy Lindo (Malcolm X) as a Monarch boss, Matthew Modine (Stranger Things) as a general, Alycia Debnam-Carey (Fear the Walking Dead), and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park).
MonsterVerse Fans Are Gearing Up For An Exciting Adventure
As the wait continues for the next MonsterVerse film, fans have a lot to look forward to in the meantime. The event, courtesy of a partnership between WorldWide Sumo and Toho International, will feature a variety of activities, including sumo wrestling, authentic Japanese music, cuisine, art, as well as the big guy himself, Godzilla, who will make a special live appearance throughout the show. The event is slated to kick off on July 25 at Petco Park’s Gallagher Square, San Diego. Get the full details of the event and purchase tickets here.
