A television adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand‘s bestselling novel of the same name, The Perfect Couple, premiered in September 2024 and brought us face to face with the scheming and shenanigans of the Winbury family. The show was originally conceived as a miniseries, but given that it became an instant hit upon its premiere, streaming giant Netflix decided to turn it into an anthology. It is certainly welcome news for the show’s audience, who can’t seem to get enough of The Perfect Couple‘s first season, which starred Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber in its lead roles. The miniseries’ main mystery might have been solved, but there is more to uncover in Season 2, and Hilderbrand has an update.
Yes, The Perfect Couple is returning for a second season, which will be based on Hilderbrand’s Swan Song novel. Speaking in June 2025, according to TV Insider, Hildebrand said, “If a Season 2 is made, it will be called The Perfect Couple. If a Season 2 is made, it will be based on my novel Swan Song. That I can say.” She also added, “If Season 2 is made, Joanna Calo will be the showrunner. Did I have drinks with her this week? I did.”
The first season of The Perfect Couple told the story of Tag (Liev Schreiber) and his famous novelist wife, Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman). It centered on Amelia (Eve Hewson) and her upcoming wedding, but the landscape of the event is thrown into chaos when a mysterious murder signals everyone in Nantucket as a suspect. Ultimately, Merritt Monaco’s (Meghann Fahy) murder was solved, with the killer named as pregnant Abby Winbury (Dakota Fanning), who drugged Merritt and drowned her in the ocean to access her husband Thomas’ (Jack Reynor) trust fund now instead of 18 years from now. The series was brought to life for television by Jenna Lamia.
What Can We Expect From ‘The Perfect Couple’ Season 2?
Hilderbrand’s Swan Song novel moves the focus away from Tag and Greer, which means we are not likely to see Schreiber and Kidman reprise their roles. Instead, the coming season will be searching for new leads as the story of the Richardsons takes center stage. The upcoming season will return to lovely Nantucket and revolve around Leslee and Bull Richardson, a mysterious couple who buy a lavish summer home there. The Richardsons throw expensive parties and flaunt their wealth, but when their house burns down and one of their employees goes missing, everyone starts asking questions. Season 2 will still be executive produced by Kidman, with Susanne Bier, Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, Per Saari, and Hend Baghdady also returning as EPs. Season 1 showrunner Lamia, had previously talked about the possibility of another season, stating:
“If all the elements came together and everybody was enthusiastic and the idea was inspiring enough to gather the same group of talented people together again, I think it’s something that’s possible. I would never say it’s impossible. There are definitely questions left at the end. The best shows—regardless if they’re going to do another season—leave you thinking after you’ve watched the final one.”
A release date for the second season of The Perfect Couple hasn’t been revealed by Netflix. The Perfect Couple is currently streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
