The OG ‘Jersey Shore’ With Its Unfiltered Chaos Was Peak Reality TV, but Nothing’s Matched It Since

Honestly, although I absolutely love the world of reality television and spend a great deal of time there, I am growing tired of social media influencers and stars invading reality shows. I miss when reality television was filled with everyday people who had a normal life, normal jobs, and no social media presence, similar to the iconic show, Jersey Shore. They were just living life until one day their lives changed when they ended up on television.

Do you remember what it was like to watch Jersey Shore for the very first time? I can describe it with one word: awesome. Not only did the cast create amazing reality television due to the amount of entertainment and drama they brought us, but the greatest factor was due to the fact that the cast were normal people from the jump. Nobody was an influencer, a model, or a social media star with thousands of followers. They were regular people given the opportunity of a lifetime, and I think we need that back.

The OG ‘Jersey Shore’ Cast Was Pure Authenticity

I would love to watch a new reality show filled with regular, non-famous people who were given the same opportunity as the OG cast of Jersey Shore. Personally, I do not think anything will ever be as iconic as the astonishing, mind-boggling show that was Jersey Shore that first premiered in 2009 – with the cheetah and leopard print clothes and the big fur boots. But, if we were given a new reality show cast with people similar to Jersey Shore, it would keep the authenticity and realness of reality television alive.

I am so tired of hearing about a new reality show that sounds awesome and has great potential, but they fill it with people who are either already famous on social media, or they cast wanna-be influencers. That completely ruins part of the show for me, because not only is the cast already known, but it rips away some of the authenticity from the jump, because “famous” social media influencers almost always put up a facade on television to keep up with the image that they portray on their social media. On their socials, they can control what they post and create their own aesthetic.

On reality television, no one in the cast is in control. They just have to be their normal, real selves. This is why I dislike watching influencers gravitate towards the world of reality television. I think they should stick to what they are great at, posting content on their chosen social media, and giving normal, everyday people the chance to create iconic reality television.

Influencers and Reality TV Don’t Mix

I miss when reality television was somewhat relatable. Not in the sense of people partying and going crazy, but the fact that the cast used to be filled with people just like us. Different jobs, different lifestyles, and different living situations. Nowadays, most people cast for reality television, because they are influencers, live in Los Angeles. I mean, just look at Snooki. Snooki, AKA, Nicole Polizzi, lived in Poughkeepsie, New York, before she was discovered on Jersey Shore. She was an everyday girl who graduated from high school, was a cheerleader, and went on with her normal life before being given the opportunity to be thrown into a shore house for the summer to party with a bunch of other everyday people.

Nobody knew who Snooki was before Jersey Shore premiered because she was just a small-town girl who was not famous. However, due to how insanely popular Jersey Shore became season after season, Snooki and her fellow cast members will go down as one of the best casts in reality television history. I would love to watch that become someone else’s reality. I want to see someone just like Snooki be handed the chance to create iconic reality television, without being a social media influencer.

Although social media influencers are great at what they do, I think they should stick to their niche, and leave reality television for the thousands of normal people out there who would be great at it. I want to watch a group of people that I can relate to, who have jobs and normal lifestyles. I want to watch them be their normal, goofy, and authentic selves, just like how the cast of Jersey Shore was. I want pure entertainment back on reality television, without the influencers.
