‘The Chosen’ Resurrects Top Ratings to Overtake ‘Supernatural’ Star’s, 47, New Crime Thriller on Streaming Charts

The Chosen is one of the best biblical television series of all time, with many putting it top of their list. The series, from creator, co-writer, and director, Dallas Jenkins, is one of the most popular and successful shows on Prime right now, and boasts an almighty 97% approval rating from audiences on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Across multiple platforms, the show is reported to have been watched by over 250 million viewers, even grossing over $120 million in theatrical releases alongside small-screen triumph.

However, even the mighty can take a hit, with The Chosen recently being overtaken on Prime Video’s top 10 streaming chart in the US by a brand-new crime thriller that has captured the attention of global audiences. That series is Countdown, the latest project starring Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles. However, when it comes to the aforementioned review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, there is simply no competition, with Countdown underwhelming critics, leading to a terrible 31% rating to date. This dropping rating is also reflected in the streaming charts, with The Chosen officially regaining its second-placed spot from Countdown as of June 30, 2025. However, neither of the shows can quite top the current biggest title on the platform: the Emily Alyn Lind-led We Were Liars.

Big Things Are Coming in ‘The Chosen’

The sixth and final season of The Chosen is currently in production, with filming taking place between North Texas, Utah, and Italy, and beginning back in April. Set to be turned into a feature-length release, the upcoming last outing for Jenkins’ biblical project will take on the most infamous of all chapters in the Bible: Jesus Christ’s (Jonathan Roumie) crucifixion. Ahead of filming the scene, which will likely stand as the most eye-catching of the entire upcoming sixth season to both Christians and non-religious viewers alike, Jenkins told Variety:

“Filmmaking is very hard. I don’t love it. I always love having done it. So I’m excited to bring it to the world when it’s done, because I think that we’ve written something and are about to film something very special and unprecedented in any portrayal of the crucifixion ever done. And Amazon just announced that we’re releasing the finale of Season 6 as a standalone feature film that I’m very excited about that. But until we film it and it works, I’m overwhelmed and nervous.”
