The Cast of One of the Greatest Sci-Fi Shows of All Time Is Finally Reuniting for a Brand New Project

Alan Tudyk is taking the DCU by storm with roles in Creature Commandos and even Superman, but one project from the star that’s more than 20 years old just got an exciting update. Tudyk featured alongside his Superman co-star Nathan Fillion in Firefly, the sci-fi TV show that was released in 2002 and ran for only one season. Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, and other stars also had roles in the series.

Earlier this year at Emerald City Comic-Con, Tudyk announced that he was reuniting with his Firefly co-star Fillion for the podcast Once, We Were Spacemen, but he declined to share many details about the project at the time. However, Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently moderated a panel for Tudyk at Denver FanExpo, where one audience member asked if Tudyk could talk any more about the project. While he once again didn’t go into specifics, he did explain what fans can expect from the podcast and confirm that they’ll be reuniting with some Firefly co-stars:

Oh! [Laughs] Right. So, nobody knows this thing because we haven’t… So, Nathan Fillion and I are going to do – I know you’re gonna be like, ‘I’ve never heard of anyone doing this before,’ – but we’re gonna do a podcast. We wanted to, you know, break some ground where we talk to our favorite, uh, sci-fi actors and other actors. People who were on Firefly, people who were not on Firefly, and sometimes we just talk to each other. Thrilling.”

Tudyk also went into detail about his relationship with Fillion: “It is interesting how much we get along, talking to one another. I hope people enjoy that.” He also confirmed that the duo has already recorded several episodes of the show, but he admits that he’s unsure when they’re going to be released: “We’ve done a lot of them. We have, like, a bank of Once, We Were Spacemen.” It’s also not up to Tudyk when the episodes see the light of day, and he’s not the one “in charge” of everything: “Nathan’s in charge of that. He’s kind of in charge of everything. He’s the captain. So, once the captain lets me know what’s going on with that… As it stands, I just show up and do my best.”

Alan Tudyk Has Already Secured Several Roles in the DCU

Alan Tudyk made himself heard in Creature Commandos by voicing Dr. Phosphorus, Surfer Son, Magnus, and even Clayface. He will not, however, play Clayface in the live-action film coming to theaters next year — the role has gone to Tom Rhys Harries. Tudyk has also been tapped to voice one of the robots at the Fortress of Solitude in Superman, which comes not long after he reprised his Rogue One role of K-2SO in Andor Season 2.

It’s unclear when the first episode of Once, We Were Spacemen will be released. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
