‘Superman’ Star, 35, Reveals If He’s Returning to the MCU

Nicholas Hoult has been consistently giving us amazing characters that tug at our hearts. He played the titular character in Renfield, Thomas Hutter in Nosferatu, led Clint Eastwood’s underrated Juror #2, and next he’ll be playing Superman’s big bad Lex Luthor. However, the actor isn’t new to the comic book genre having played a younger version of Beast aka Frank McCoy in Fox X-Men movies, with the iconic mutant team returning to MCU fold with Avengers: Doomsday, its natural fans would want to see Hoult back as well given Kelsey Grammer, who played an older version of Beast already made a cameo in The Marvels and is set to return in the backdrop of the multiverse.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor was asked if he’d like to return as the character again, and he simply said, “No.” But he’s very excited to see the X-Men return to the big screen. Hoult and Grammer both appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past, where in Hoult played the character in the past and Grammer made a brief appearance at the end in the future timeline. “Kelsey was a great Beast,” Hoult shared his reaction to his MCU return. “He was the Beast I saw when I was a kid, along with the other actors that they’re bringing back, Patrick and Ian and James and all them.” Adding,

“Those were the characters that I got to watch in X-Men movies. I’m excited to see what they do with it. It’ll be fun to see how they incorporate those characters into that world.”

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will Bring Back the X-Men

Marvel has been steadily injecting the idea of mutants into the MCU for a while now. But we have seen only glimpses of OG characters; nonetheless, Doomsday will bring them all together. Returning alongside Grammer are Patrick Stewart as Professor X, who previously played a version of the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Ian McKellen, who will reprise his role as Magneto for the first time since X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014. Furthermore, James Marsden will return to play Scott Summers/Cyclops, having last played the character in X-Men: The Last Stand with a brief cameo in Days of Future Past. OG Mystique Rebecca Romijn will also while Alan Cumming will also reprise his role as Nightcrawler. Joining them is Channing Tatum as Gambit, reprising his role from Deadpool & Wolverine.

Superman flies into theatres on July 11. Avengers: Doomsday is currently filming. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
