‘Superman & Lois’ Star, 37, Hails “Very Classy” ‘Superman’ Star For Their Behavior After Taking Role [Exclusive]

Tyler Hoechlin, Brandon Routh, George Newbern, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, and Tim Daly all came together for a rare Superman panel — moderated by Collider’s Maggie Lovitt — sharing stories, laughs, and heartfelt reflections on playing the iconic Man of Steel. But one of the panel’s most memorable moments came when Hoechlin addressed the franchise’s future—and the newest actor to don the cape, David Corenswet. In a moment of genuine warmth, Hoechlin recalled how the passing of the torch had gone behind the scenes.

“David sent me a really nice note as we were wrapping on Superman & Lois, and they were just getting going,” Hoechlin shared, speaking of the transition from The CW series to James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman. “It was just a really nice, classy note to reach out. I sent a note back, and it was a really nice exchange.”

Hoechlin, who wrapped his run as Superman with the Superman & Lois series finale earlier this year, was quick to praise Corenswet’s character and professionalism. “Yeah, he’s a very classy guy, really talented actor. I’m excited for them,” said Hoechlin. He also took a moment to mention Corenswet’s co-star, Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane in the upcoming movie.

“I met Rachel a few times. She was very sweet. So excited for the fans to have him to grab onto.”

What Did David Corenswet Say About Tyler Hoechlin and Henry Cavill?

At the film’s London premiere, Corenswet shared that both Henry Cavill and Hoechlin reached out via letters prior to production — but didn’t offer classic acting advice or role-specific guidance. He said:

“I had the pleasure of exchanging letters with two previous Supermans, Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin. They both, in their way, sort of refrained from giving advice. ‘There’s not much advice that we can give—you sort of have to do your own thing.’ But it was really wonderful to get words of encouragement from them and… talk about how appreciative I was of the way that they had stewarded the character in their time.”

From the sound of it, it was a genuinely touching “passing of the torch” from one generation to the next, with both Cavill and Hoechlin offering moral support rather than specific direction. Corenswet called the exchange “a special experience,” and he expressed genuine excitement about one day sharing a stage with his predecessors, which was a fine gesture and sentiment.
