Fans of Apple TV+’s hit sci-fi drama Silo have plenty to look forward to, with Season 3 having recently wrapped principal photography. While the streamer has yet to announce an official release date, a new update has surfaced that’s sure to excite viewers still reeling from that explosive Season 2 finale. For a series steeped in mystery and slow-burning revelations, delivering answers in a timely fashion is crucial to sustaining audience engagement, and it seems the creators are keenly aware of that. In a promising new development, the show’s cinematographer, Baz Irvine, has shared a production update that hints at when the much-anticipated final season might arrive.
Silo Season 2 premiered last fall, with its finale arriving earlier this year, teeing up the next chapter with even more jaw-dropping twists. The show successfully sidestepped the dreaded sophomore slump, gaining enough momentum to earn not one, but two back-to-back season renewals. That twin greenlight not only reassures fans that the story won’t be left dangling, but also gives the series room to fully explore the scope of its source material — Hugh Howey‘s novel trilogy, Wool, Shift, and Dust. Season 4 will mark the final chapter, and there’s always a creative advantage when a show has its endgame mapped out, as it allows for efficient storytelling. Following the renewal, star Rebecca Ferguson hinted that Seasons 3 and 4 could shoot back-to-back, and now, fans can rest assured the series is right on schedule to pull that off.
‘Silo’ Season 4 Will Begin Filming Soon Without Irvine
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Irvine revealed that he’d recently been in touch with one of the show’s directors, and could confirm that the crew recently wrapped filming for Season 3 and were on the verge of filming Season 4. “Three is actually just finished,” he said, adding; “But, interestingly I met the director, Michael Dinner, who I worked with on season two … he made the decision to stay on and do season three and season four, [and] they’re actually about to start season four.”
While Irvine is close enough to production to know the status of filming, the DOP revealed he didn’t return to the show as part of Season 3’s crew and also won’t participate in Season 4. Irvine cited a grueling filming experience as his reason, and also explained the need for the newer seasons to be shot from a different perspective to keep things fresh. “So, no, I didn’t go back to season three,” he continued. It was such an incredibly long stint, season two, because I was the lead DOP, so I came in 12 weeks early to do prep. I also had to contend with COVID, the actors’ strike, [and] the writers’ strike. And what happened was, what would’ve been like about a nine-month commitment–which was already a really long commitment–ended up being 15 months. The rest of his comments reads:
“Also, a lot of that time is spent in subterranean sets, going slightly crazy due to lack of sunlight. I think I had the scurvy, or one of old-fashioned diseases. I think, when you do a stint like that, you have to question if you’re the right person for the project to go forward next time. And I think Silo is a great example of a show where it probably does actually benefit [to have] a new set of eyes and a new DOP come in, just to mark the difference and variation you need from season to season to make a show progress. That was my rationale, and also, I wanted to experience some other things.”
Apple TV+ has yet to announce an official release date for Silo Season 3, but based on previous production timelines, the new season is likely to arrive in early 2026. With filming on Season 4 set to begin soon, fans likely won’t have to endure a long gap between the next chapter and the series finale. Stay tuned for updates.
