Creator Dan Fogelman is deep in the weeds on Paradise Season 2 production, but the social media team may have just inadvertently spoiled one major plot point. It’s already been confirmed that Season 1 stars Sterling K. Brown and Julianne Nicholson will reprise their roles as Xavier Collins and Sinatra, but the biggest question mark has been surrounding James Marsden. Marsden has been in the middle of filming Avengers: Doomsday, the 2026 tentpole that will see him reprise his role as Cyclops. He was recently spotted training for the film with co-star Simu Liu. However, the Paradise social media team posted a photo of Marsden standing between Brown and Nicholson, seemingly on the set of Season 2, simply captioned, “Legends only.” It’s unclear if this is a set photo from Season 2 that confirms Marsden will reprise his role as Cal Bradford, or if it’s simple a Season 1 set photo to tide fans over with some nostalgia.
Marsden’s Cal Bradford dies in the opening minutes of Paradise Season 1, but Fogelman makes great use of him with flashbacks throughout the season to establish the impact he had on all the characters, but especially Xavier Collins. If Marsden is going to return as Cal Bradford in Paradise Season 2, it’s going to have to be in flashbacks of some sort, barring any sort of strange resurrection that Fogelman would almost certainly choose to avoid. There have been several newcomers join the Paradise Season 2 cast since the conclusion of Season 1. The first was Shailene Woodley, who will play someone who lives outside the bunker, and the second is Thomas Doherty, who will reportedly play the leader of a biker gang.
