Return to Pogue One Last Time as ‘Outer Banks’ Season 5 Begins Production With New Set Images

Get ready to return to Pogue, less than a year removed from the Season 4 finale, with a thrilling update on the future of Outer Banks. Netflix has officially announced that Outer Banks Season 5, which will be the final season of the hit series, has begun production. The streamer even debuted two new images of the cast on the set of Season 5, which can be found below. It’s unclear at this time exactly when Outer Banks Season 5 is going to be released, but it has been confirmed that it will be sometime in 2026. Given that the show is expected to film throughout the rest of the year, the most likely window for release lies sometime in the second half of the year, likely in October/November, like Season 4.

There have been 40 episodes of Outer Banks through four seasons, and only four stars have featured in every installment. Leading the charge are Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline as John B Routledge and Sarah Cameron. Madison Bailey and J.D. can also be seen in every episode of Outer Banks as Kiara Carrera and Pope Heyward, respectively. There is a minuscule drop-off to Rudy Pankow and Drew Starkley, who are both series regulars who have appeared in 40 episodes of the show to date, missing out on only one installment. Tony Crane and Cullen Moss have also been granted the status of series regulars heading into Season 5. The show was written and created for television by Shannon Burke and Jonas and Josh Pate, and it’s one of Netflix’s top 25 series ever, with over 200 million views.

Why Is ‘Outer Banks’ Season 5 the Last Season?

It hasn’t been explicitly confirmed why Outer Banks Season 5 is the final season, but it’s likely for some of the same reasons other shows come to a halt around the five-season mark. At this point, the stars of Outer Banks are much more famous than they were when the show began in 2020, which means it’s getting more and more expensive to bring them back. As the story develops and stakes rise, this also usually means a more expensive production, and it’s likely getting to a point where the cost of the series doesn’t justify another season. No one involved with this decision seemed particularly upset upon its announcement, though, so it surely feels like the correct stopping point for all parties.
