Only two weeks now stand between movie fans everywhere and the release of Jurassic World Rebirth, and the film’s scribe has just revealed a major detail that could help draw more interest. David Koepp, who penned the screenplay for the original Jurassic Park (1993), was brought back to write Jurassic World Rebirth, with legendary director Steven Spielberg once again serving as an executive producer, as he did on all three previous Jurassic World movies. While credited as a producer, it was unclear just how involved Spielberg was in the creative side of the film until now. Deadline caught up with screenwriter David Koepp at the red carpet of Jurassic World Rebirth and asked if Spielberg gave any guidance on the film’s direction or story:
“Oh, he was very involved. That was one of the reasons I most wanted to do it. Because Steven was deeply involved from the beginning, and for the six months that we were working on the script, it was really just him and me. I’d send him my ideas, and we’d work on them, and when you have Steven’s full attention, the results can be pretty spectacular.”
Fans of the original Jurassic Park series will certainly be excited to hear that Spielberg had such a heavy hand in bringing this next chapter of the story to life. Directing the original Jurassic Park movie in 1993 further helped Spielberg’s career take off, though it was already soaring thanks to his work on the Indiana Jones franchise. He’s widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers not only of his generation, but of all time, and many fans felt it was too obvious that his input was absent from the Jurassic World movies. From the moment Koepp signed on to write the script, fans were optimistic that this would be something of a return to the glory days of the franchise. Only time will tell if this stands true, but we don’t have to wait long to see how Jurassic World Rebirth will be received by critics and the masses.
