In less than two weeks, DanDaDan fans will get to dive into the highly anticipated Season 2 of the worldwide phenomenon. In order to do that, they will need to have a subscription to a streaming platform. The good news is, the anime series is not exclusive to any streaming service; there will be multiple options for fans to check out the new adventures, and all platforms will release episodes simultaneously with Japan. At this point, we already had confirmation that Netflix and Crunchyroll will once again debut episodes in their respective libraries. This week, Hulu joined the chorus and confirmed that it will be yet another option to stream DanDaDan when it returns.
Season 2 of DanDaDan comes highly anticipated. Last year, the anime series set a high bar for itself with its gorgeous art style and its entertaining mix of supernatural and sci-fi stories. With a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes – and 93% from the audience – the series needs to be at least as good as Season 1 in order for fans to keep hyped up about it. Luckily, the new season will kick off with a powerful arc, which is the continuation of the investigation of Jiji’s (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa in the original Japanese, and by Aleks Le in the English dub) house. Considered one of the best arcs in the manga series, it is an excellent way to kick off the season.
Of course, it’s not like fans have shown any indication that they aren’t excited about the series. Just recently, the compilation movie DanDaDan: Evil Eye debuted in theaters, and, aside from breaking the franchise’s records, it still managed to outperform titles like A Minecraft Movie and The Accountant 2. So far, the movie has managed to rake in over $5 million worldwide – more than My Hero Academia: You’re Next – and it hasn’t even premiered in all territories.
What Is ‘DanDaDan: Evil Eye’ About?
DanDaDan: Evil Eye stitches together the first three episodes from Season 2 in order to screen it like a movie. This means that a great portion of fans already know what happens in the first arc before the season officially premieres. From the Season 1 finale, we could already guess that the visit to Jiji’s house would take a dark turn, though. Now, Okarun (Natsuki Hanae/A.J. Beckles), Momo (Shion Wakayama/Abby Trott), and Turbo Granny (Mayumi Tanaka/Barbara Goodson) will have to face the enemy that inhabits the very core of the house, an entity known as The Avatar of Hatred.
DanDaDan is adapted from the best-selling manga series created by Yukinobu Tatsu. The mangaka is closely involved in the adaptation, going as far as participating in the voice actors’ recording sessions to help with improvisation and changes to dialogue. The manga series is currently in Chapter 198, which suggests that the anime series could keep going for at least a few more seasons.
DanDaDan Season 2 premieres on Netflix, Crunchyroll, and Hulu on July 3.
