New ‘Batman & Robin’ McFarlane Toys Figure Shows Off a Chilling Look at the Boy Wonder

McFarlane Toys has been giving a lot of love to DC and their favorite Caped Crusader, Batman, for the last half decade. Whether it be figures based on specific comic book stories, TV shows or The Dark Knight’s various film appearances, they’ve covered every inch of Batman’s 85-plus-year history. Now, McFarlane’s latest movie figure is based on most moviegoers’ least favorite Batman film.

A GameStop exclusive, the latest “Frostbite” edition movie figure is Chris O’Donnell‘s Robin from Batman & Robin. The Boy Wonder is made to look like he’s been frozen over with ice, which is fitting given Mr. Freeze was one of the main villains of the 1997 film. This is the second Frostbite edition makeover McFarlane has given Batman & Robin. George Clooney’s Batman got the same treatment earlier this year. Robin’s figure comes with two freeze effects, a frosty display base, and a character art card. The figure will be $29.99 USD. This is the second Batman & Robin Boy Wonder McFarlane has released.

‘Batman & Robin’ Frozen in Time

While Batman & Robin’s poor reception caused the franchise to freeze to death for almost a decade, with the darker version of the character back in the limelight, the campier films of the ’90s are being reevaluated – mainly by the people that grew up with the film. When talking about the installment, O’Donnell famously compared the production of Batman & Robin to a toy commercial. That’s exactly what it was, yet that label isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This absurd buddy comedy was a throwback to the Adam West ’60s TV series. It was a colorful action film packed in with masculine melodrama.

Also, the toys that McFarlane has made for Batman & Robin over the years have brought the sole object of the film full circle. To this point, McFarlane has released figures for Batman, Robin, Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze. They still need to release a Bane based on this critically panned adventure, but they even recently made Clooney’s Batmobile to pair with the collection.
