Netflix’s Underwhelming Coming-of-age Drama Gets An Unexpected Filming Update Ahead of Season 2

Ahead of the highly anticipated Season 2, Netflix has surprisingly renewed My Life with the Walter Boys for a third run, much to fans’ delight. The teen drama has not been a favorite among critics, as the first season has an unimpressive 42% Rotten Tomatoes rating; however, it appears that the streamer’s subscribers love the show despite its many faults. Season 2 of My Life with the Walter Boys is expected to debut sometime this summer, but a premiere date has not been set yet. In the meantime, we have even more great news for fans regarding the production of the recently announced Season 3.

According to the Directors Guild of Canada, the third season of My Life with the Walter Boys, which has been in development, has already entered pre-production as of June 9 and is expected to conclude on August 5. Filming is then scheduled to last from August 6 to December 1 of this year, though the production wrap date remains tentative. Netflix has also confirmed that the season will debut in 2026 as part of the renewal announcement, with further details expected to be unveiled later.

My Life with the Walter Boys, based on Ali Novak‘s 2014 novel of the same name, which was first published on Wattpad, premiered on December 7, 2023, and was renewed for a second season that same month. Melanie Halsall is continuing showrunning duties in the upcoming season, which will also see the return of Nikki Rodriguez, Noah LaLonde, Ashby Gentry, Sarah Rafferty, and Marc Blucas, among others. Plus, five new characters will be introduced when the coming-of-age show returns, three of whom are new love interests for the extended cast.

In the new season of the Netflix series, Jackie (Rodriguez) endeavors to find her place within the Walter family, but fitting back in isn’t so easy, as teased by the synopsis. And when Katherine (Rafferty) convinces her to return to Colorado, she is determined to set boundaries with Cole (LaLonde) and make amends with Alex (Gentry), who changed a lot over the summer and isn’t too thrilled about Jackie’s attempts to reconnect. The logline of My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2 continues:

Cole takes on a new role at school, but when that doesn’t quite fill the void left by not playing football, his old ways creep back in and cause drama. As Jackie gains acceptance in Silver Falls while trying to hold onto her Howard identity, she’s forced to make a choice that could destroy everything she’s worked to rebuild.
