F1: The Movie raced into theaters this weekend, but director Joseph Kosinski is already looking beyond the finish line to his next project. The director, who began his career with Tron: Legacy and Oblivion, is returning to the science fiction realm for a new movie about UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, formerly known as Unidentified Flying Objects or UFOs). He discussed the film with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff while doing the interview rounds for F1.
The film will give Kosinski the welcome opportunity to work with a pair of past collaborators, and with experts in the field of anomalous phenomena:
“It’s an opportunity to work with Jerry Bruckheimer again, and Apple, which has been incredible. The subject itself is fascinating. We’re working with some people that are very close to that world that have given us some incredible insight into the topic and what’s going on. We’re working on it right now, and it is fascinating. It’s one of those things I think everyone in the world is going to want to know more about. I’m very excited about the possibilities and, again, how we’re going to capture the world of it, of that topic. I’m very excited.”
What Do We Know About Joseph Koskinsi’s UAP Movie?
The film is said to be a conspiracy thriller, centering around two men working at a national security agency who uncover a massive conspiracy to recover, conceal, and reverse-engineer the technology from crashed alien spaceships. The film will be written by Zach Baylin (The Order); he was Oscar-nominated for his first produced screenplay, King Richard, in 2021. Veteran megaproducer Bruckheimer, who worked with Kosinski on F1 and Top Gun: Maverick, will executive produce. The project was the subject of an intense bidding war earlier this year, which Apple won with a bid totaling tens of millions of dollars.
