Mark Wahlberg movies always prove popular on streaming, with it seeming like the Hollywood veteran’s entire filmography continues in a revolving door of success on streaming platforms. The latest in this long and never-ending line is Shooter, the 2007 political thriller Wahlberg starred in alongside Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Danny Glover, and many other notable names. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and based on the novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter, the movie holds a 47% from critics and 80% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and has now officially been fired at another successful streaming target, almost 20 years on from its release.
Officially, Shooter is currently one of Pluto TV’s top 10 most-streamed titles, as of June 11, 2025. The movie is currently at ninth place on the list at the time of writing, outperforming Alicia Silverstone‘s Clueless at #10. Elsewhere on the list, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is the eighth most-watched movie, with comedy classic Caddyshack at #7, and the first installment in Michael Bay‘s Transformers franchise at #6. #5 is held by Christopher McQuarrie‘s Jack Reacher, with Terminator: Dark Fate, at #4, and Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street at #3. James Cameron‘s Titanic is the second most-watched title on the streamer, with #1 going to Danny Boyle‘s highly acclaimed horror 28 Days Later.
Could ‘Shooter’ Ever Receive a Sequel?
With Shooter‘s popularity returning once again, perhaps there’s life in the title yet. Many fans of Wahlberg’s catalog will have long wanted a sequel to Shooter, and will be enthused to learn that the man himself shares their desires. Back in a 2024 interview with Screen Rant, Wahlberg spoke of the possiblity of Shooter getting a sequel, saying, “Well, I think my good friends over at Skydance just took over Paramount, so I think that’s a possibility.” He then added:
“We got a pretty good library over there with, not only Shooter, with The Italian Job, even Four Brothers, The Fighter. And then other things that they have in the library that could be interesting to revisit, or revamp, but that one in particular. Yes. Anywhere I go for the last 20 years, people are always coming up to me about that movie. They don’t always turn out the way you want. But that particular movie? If myself, Antoine Fuqua, and if they get Michael Peña back, that would be very cool.”
Shooter is a streaming hit on Pluto TV and is available to watch now. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
