July Will Not Be a Popular Month for ‘Wicked’ Fans

Jon M. Chu’s musical fantasy Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in the iconic roles of Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, garnered much praise upon its release. The movie was not only a commercial success but became a pop-culture phenomenon, making waves throughout the awards season. Fans flocked to the theaters to see the feature and watched it again when it began streaming on Peacock.

However, per ComicBook, Wicked is leaving Peacock later in July after arriving on the platform back in March. The movie will then be heading to Prime Video, which has a deal with Universal to get the second-run rights to the studio’s live-action releases. Fans who want to watch the movie on Peacock have until July 20. Since the highly anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good, arrives in November 2025, fans will want to revisit the film before heading to theaters.

What Do We Know About ‘Wicked: For Good’?

Fans have seen the trailer for Wicked: For Good, which introduces familiar characters like Tin Man, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and the long-awaited arrival of Dorothy. The trailer garnered a lot of eyeballs and hinted at the emotional weight of Elphaba and Glinda’s relationship in the light of coming events. The movie is still in post-production; composer Stephen Schwartz previously told Collider that he has written new songs for the sequel. He further revealed, “they’re still cutting away,” when asked if he’d seen a final cut of Wicked: For Good. Adding,

“I’m seeing it as it develops, and still working on aspects of the score, because we have our recording sessions coming up next month, so we have to get it finished. But, I mean, that’s the interesting thing about movies—and live action movies—that I didn’t really know: how much they continue to evolve and change in the editing process. So our brilliant director, Jon Chu, and you know, Myron Kerstein, he’s the editor, they’re still changing and discovering, and it’s exciting to see it develop.”

The movie will also bring back power-packed performers, including Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, and Bronwyn James as ShenShen.

Wicked leaves Peacock on July 20 and will start streaming on Prime Video on July 25. The sequel Wicked: For Good hits theaters November 21, 2025.
