Josh Duhamel is blasting himself out of an incredibly dangerous corner in the debut trailer for London Calling. The film acts as a crime caper reunion for the leading man and director, Allan Ungar, who previously joined forces behind the 2022 biographical film, Bandit. Assisted by a supporting cast that includes Rick Hoffman (Suits), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), and Jeremy Ray Taylor (It), the explosive trailer teases Duhamel’s latest dip into the genre courtesy of his on-screen persona — a disgraced hitman named Tommy Ward.
The name “Tommy Ward” echoes throughout the opening seconds of the first official trailer for London Calling, as a voiceover informs audiences about the assassin’s legendary run as one of the biggest names in the biz. Unfortunately, that life is all in the past now, after a hit-gone-wrong forced Duhamel’s leading character to flee from London to the otherside of the globe. Now residing in Los Angeles, Tommy is looking for a way back to England — a route he finds through the assistance of his old friend, Benson (Hoffman). There’s just one catch, in order to strike out on safe passage back to the country where he’s a wanted man by an incredibly dangerous gangster (Gillen), Tommy will need to impart his skills upon Benson’s son, Julian (Taylor). Together, the unlikely duo go on a globe-trotting journey crossing off one hit after the next in their quest to get Tommy back to England and put the love of the industry in Julian’s heart.
In addition to serving as the project’s helmer, Ungar also co-penned the screenplay for London Calling alongside Omer Levin Menekse and Quinn Wolfe. This marks the filmmaker’s return to the land of feature-length filmmaking following his turn as a producer behind Yuval Adler’s 2023 psychological thriller, Sympathy for the Devil.
What Else Has Josh Duhamel Been Up To?
Aside from smashing skulls, taking names, and trying to dodge the repeated murder attempts placed on his character in London Calling, Duhamel has been staying in the spotlight in multiple genres. After a few years away from television, the Las Vegas star returned by way of Netflix’s smash-hit adaptation of Jodi Thomas’ book series, Ransom Canyon. While no Season 2 renewal has been announced as of yet, the title did well for the streamer and put Duhamel back in the saddle as a rancher named Staten Kirkland.
Back on the big screen, Duhamel has a handful of projects peeking over the horizon thanks to appearances in Johnny Martin’s action flick, Off the Grid, and Joe Carnahan’s survival thriller, Not Without Hope. Additionally, it was announced earlier this year that the actor will both direct and star in a comedy flick titled Preschool.
