When Eric Kripke’s fantasy series Supernatural came to an end after a 15-season run, the story of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) wasn’t the only thing that fans knew they would miss. The show and the stories from one episode to the next were just a small piece of the puzzle compared to the heartwarming bromance shared between the two leading actors. For nearly two decades, Padalecki and Ackles showed up on set to work alongside one another and, during that time, they created a bond so tight that they became intertwined in one another’s lives.
Though we’re still waiting for news of some sort of Supernatural reunion or sequel series, audiences will at least get to see the pair on screen together again in the fifth and final season of The Boys. The Prime Video production is another Kripke creation and one that Ackles previously appeared in back in Season 3. His character, Soldier Boy, will make a comeback in the upcoming set of episodes, with Padalecki and the duo’s fellow Supernatural co-star, Misha Collins, also set to join the fun.
While speaking with Ackles on the red carpet for his upcoming Prime Video series, Countdown, Collider’s Aidan Kelley asked him about his friendship with Padalecki and how the pair meshed together on The Boys. Giving us the answer that we were fully expecting, Ackles said:
“There’s a reason he and I did that show for 15 years because we truly got along, we truly enjoy working together, and we’re effectively brothers in real life, too. So anytime we get a chance to mix it up and do stuff, it’s always a blast. He’s the best. You can put us two in front of anything; we’ll get the job done.”
What We Know About the ‘Supernatural’ Reunion On ‘The Boys’
Over the last four seasons, fans have cried out for some sort of Supernatural reunion to happen on The Boys, but things really began to pick up steam last spring after Padalecki’s series, Walker, was given the axe. This freed up plenty of time in the actor’s schedule, allowing him to commit to a guest spot during the darkly satirical show’s final season. We know that Ackles will reprise his role as Soldier Boy, but as for his Supernatural pals, we’re fully in the dark. The one thing we do know and are incredibly happy about is that the trio will share some screen time together, as Kripke previously revealed:
“I will confirm that Jared, Jensen, and Misha are all in the same frame together, and in the same storyline, and interacting with each other.”
As of right now, no release window has been set for Season 5 of The Boys, but stay tuned to Collider for more information.
