Jason Isaacs Gives a Promising Update About Season 3 of ‘The OA’

In the six years since Season 2 of Netflix’s sci-fi drama, The OA, came to an end, fans have been vocally desperate for more. The truly one-of-a-kind series went where no other production had gone in the past — or even in the days since. Featuring performances from familiar names like Jason Isaacs, Phyllis Smith, Brit Marling, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Patrick Gibson, and more, the show not only had its incredible storyline going for it, but was also a star-studded affair. And, with an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 84% from critics and 83% from audiences, it’s no wonder why The OA’s following is still pushing for answers when it comes to the title’s future.

Last weekend, during Fan Expo Denver, Collider’s Maggie Lovitt moderated a panel that featured Isaacs, during which he not only shared his praise for the gone-too-soon series, but also promised fans that there would be more to the story — they just might need to wait a bit longer. When asked by a fan about the mysterious third season, the Harry Potter alum said,

“For those people who haven’t seen the OA — A. What’s wrong with you? It’s a fantasy series that is on Netflix that I was in. It is one of the most original and beautiful and human and brilliant things that I’ve ever been lucky to be a part of… I’m not a big part of it. I’m not the main part by any means, and many other people who you will know from other things are in it… You won’t encounter anything like it and it did some extraordinary things with dimension hopping, and, I don’t want to spoil the ending of Season 2 for you, but it did have something that when I read it, I phoned and went, ‘What the fuck is the matter with you? Why do you write this? This doesn’t make any sense. You jumped the shark.’”

Luckily, series creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij welcomed Isaacs’ upset and uncertainty regarding the show’s future. The pair handled Isaacs’ questions with care and respect, inviting him over for dinner, where the actor reveals the indie storytellers hooked him immediately, as he added, “And within 30 seconds, I was going, ‘I’m so sorry I doubted you. Oh my God.’”

The Cast Never Forgot About ‘The OA’

As for the stacked cast, Isaacs said that he and the rest of his co-stars are more than willing to answer the call, should Marling and Batmanglij continue with Season 3.

“They all have agreed that they’re desperate to come back and do it if we manage to do anymore. Everybody, no matter how big a star they become in other things, they all want to do more of it… [Marling and Batmanglij’s] ideas are so good and so original, and we have not let it go, and then we will find some way to finish that story, believe me.”

The OA is now streaming on Netflix.
