Robert Kirkman is one creator who keeps on giving. He envisioned the entire The Walking Dead saga and is currently busy making the Invincible animated series, which is getting better with each season, be it the story arcs, character designs, or the simple decision of where to put the title card. The series is beloved by fans and casual viewers alike. In a new interview with Deadline, Kirkman revealed how The Walking Dead experience has helped in making Invincible better.
One of the main criticisms of The Walking Dead series is the whiplash one gets with diminishing quality, especially in the later seasons. Kirkman said that while making the series, which features a slew of interesting characters (RIP Glenn), he was onboard with all the changes but didn’t “properly plan for the butterfly effects that came from those changes.”
Another factor that came up was the incomplete comic book series at the time, so he “didn’t know exactly where the comic book story was going to go… But then you get to Season 6-Season 9, and you have entire storylines from the comic that don’t work anymore because none of the work was done to set those up beforehand.” He further explained that this experience has helped him craft Invincible better as he has the comic book series finished, and many decisions while making the animation are taken keeping the future seasons in mind. He elaborated:
“There’s a lot of decisions that were made on Invincible Season 1- Season 3, that were made just in case we get to adapt the entire comic so that when we’re going Season 5- Season 6 if we’re fortunate enough to do those, we know the track has been laid, and things have been planned. So, we can do that. We go from season to season, so the process of adapting the comic book into the show isn’t getting more difficult because we’ve done the hard work of making sure that everything is where it needs to be.”
What To Expect From ‘Invincible’ Season 4
Mark (Steven Yeun) has come a long way since the first season, where we see him discovering his superpowers for the first time. He’s been betrayed by his father, Omni-Man (JK Simmons), fought Viltrumites, and found a new brother, Oliver (Christian Convery), whose influence won’t be great on him. Given the in-depth planning by the creators and lengthy animation time, there’s no telling when the next season will arrive.
