Heath Ledger’s 59% Rotten Tomatoes Medieval Action Comedy Finds Free Streaming Home

Heath Ledger is widely considered a once-in-a-generation actor. His versatility, range, and the kinds of roles he chose to play created a filmography unlike any other. While most fans remember him for portraying Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, his roles in 10 Things I Hate About You, Brokeback Mountain, The Brothers Grimm, and more are equally intriguing. Now, one of his fan-favorite movies, A Knight’s Tale, has found a free streaming home for fans to watch.

Written and directed by Brian Helgeland, A Knight’s Tale follows peasant-born William Thatcher (Ledger), who begins a quest to change his stars, find love, and rock his medieval world. With the help of his rag-tag group of friends, he faces the ultimate test of medieval gallantry – tournament jousting – and discovers if he has the mettle to become a legend. The film’s juxtaposition of fictional stories with historical figures like Edward the Black Prince and Geoffrey Chaucer, along with a soundtrack featuring ’70s music and epic action sequences, makes it a delight.

Though the movie received mixed reviews upon its release back in the day, it was a decent box office performer, earning $117.5 million worldwide. Its Rotten Tomatoes rating further shows the divide between the critics, who rated it 59%, and the fans, who awarded the film a 79% on the review aggregator website. The movie has an equally intriguing cast, including Ledger as William, Mark Addy (Game of Thrones) as Roland, Alan Tudyk (Resident Alien) as Wat, Paul Bettany (WandaVision) as Geoffrey Chaucer, Shannyn Sossamon as Jocelyn, and Laura Fraser as Kate. Further rounding off the cast are Bérénice Bejo, James Purefoy, Christopher Cazenove, and Nick Brimble.

‘Brokeback Mountain’ Is Celebrating Its 20th Anniversary

Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain is another favorite of Ledger’s fans. The film is unlike any other and tells the most delicate story that can make anyone believe ugly crying is real. The cult classic is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a return to theaters in a special screening this June. The movie also cast Jake Gyllenhaal as rodeo cowboy Jack, and explores the lives of two young men who meet in the summer of 1963 and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection. Things get complicated when Ennis (Ledger) marries his longtime sweetheart, Alma (Michelle Williams) and Jack marries a fellow rodeo rider (Anne Hathaway), while the two men keep up their sporadic affair over the course of 20 years.

A Knight’s Tale is streaming on Tubi. Brokeback Mountain returns to theaters on June 22 and 25.
