In a powerful Instagram video post captioned “Breaking my silence,” the 33-year-old reflected on her past, offered heartfelt remorse, and firmly placed responsibility on her ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn for the 2015 murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
Gypsy-Rose, who served eight years of a ten-year sentence for second-degree murder, declared that she has taken full accountability for her role, but emphasized that Godejohn made the final decision to carry out the killing. “Justice was served, and so was my time,” she wrote, underlining that while she cannot undo the trauma, she will continue to apologize to Dee Dee’s relatives — the Pitre family — “now and always.”
However, Blanchard’s statement didn’t stop at personal accountability — it included direct accusations against Godejohn, whom she described as “a deeply disturbed man” who preyed on emotionally vulnerable women. With permission from one such woman named Dawn Bowker, Blanchard shared a series of prison emails allegedly sent by Godejohn, showcasing what she called a disturbing pattern of manipulation under the guise of love and dominance. “He is a man on a relentless search for his ‘perfect submissive,’” she wrote, describing how he uses coercive control tactics even from behind bars. She claimed that Godejohn manipulated multiple women using fantasy-fueled rhetoric and emotional dependency, and that she was just one in a chain of women drawn into his “twisted world.”

Now fully free from the legal system for the first time in a decade, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard is reclaiming her voice and her agency. “Mental health is complex, but accountability matters and no one is above the law,” she stated in her video post that comprises around 8 long notes. She pointed out that Godejohn’s appeals had all failed and that twelve jurors, after reviewing the same evidence now circulating online, found him guilty of first-degree murder. “I will not carry his actions on my shoulders any longer,” she said firmly, and drew a line between her own accountability and his. The statement then ended on a note of strength and resolve, and Blanchard said she is entering a new chapter focused on peace, healing, and reclaiming her life.
