More news in the world of book-to-screen adaptations. This time it’s two former Gossip Girl co-stars (yes, one episode counts) that will star opposite one another in a new book adaptation. The romantic comedy You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle is being adapted for the screen and, according to the Hollywood Reporter, has Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy attached to star. The flick will be directed by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, the pens behind romcoms like Never Been Kissed and He’s Just Not That Into You. The pair also revised Brett Haley and Marc Basch‘s initial script for the You Deserve Each Other adaptation. You Deserve Each Other‘s logline is as folllows:
“Naomi Westfield has the perfect fiancé: Nicholas Rose holds doors open for her, remembers her restaurant orders, and comes from the kind of upstanding society family any bride would love to be a part of. They never fight. They’re preparing for their lavish wedding that’s three months away. And she is miserably and utterly sick of him.
Naomi wants out, but there’s a catch: whoever ends the engagement will have to foot the nonrefundable wedding bill. When Naomi discovers that Nicholas, too, has been feigning contentment, the two of them go head-to-head in a battle of pranks, sabotage, and all-out emotional warfare.
But with the countdown looming to the wedding that may or may not come to pass, Naomi finds her resolve slipping. Because now that they have nothing to lose, they’re finally being themselves–and having fun with the last person they expect: each other.”
Another name synonymous with modern rom-com books is Emily Henry. It was just announced that the upcoming adaptation of her book People We Meet on Vacation will hit Netflix screens January 9, 2026. The movie stars Emily Bader (My Lady Jane) and Tom Blyth (The Ballad of the Songbirds and Snakes) as Poppy and Alex. Alongside the release date, a fun social media video was released that featured Bader and Blyth’s voices reciting lines from the upcoming rom-com. Three other of Henry’s books: Beach Read, Book Lovers, and Happy Place, also have adaptations in the works. According to Deadline, Yulin Kuang is attached to direct the adaptation of Beach Read, Sarah Heyward will pen the script for Book Lovers, Jennifer Lopez‘s Nuyorican Productions just recently optioned Happy Place.
