‘G.I. Joe’ Star, 38, Delivers an Update on Planned ‘Transformers’ Crossover Return

Henry Golding recently took his name out of consideration as the next James Bond, and now the star has also provided another update on another future project he’s been rumored to star in. One of Golding’s most notable roles came from starring in Snake Eyes, formerly titled Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. The film premiered in 2021 to poor reviews from critics and mediocre reviews from audiences — it earned scores of 35% from the former and 74% from the latter on Rotten Tomatoes.

The release of 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts shocked the world with its post-credit scene, one that teased a crossover with the G.I. Joe franchise. It was later reported that a crossover movie between the two was in the works, with Marvel veteran Chris Hemsworth attached to star and Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) writing the script. Golding recently caught up with Comicbook.com to chat about his new Netflix movie, The Old Guard 2, and he spoke about the planned crossover between the two franchise titans:

“I know there’s stuff happening — there’s rumors of Transformers and Snake Eyes. I don’t know if they’ll just skip our G.I. Joe and go back to the original G.I. Joe, like, who knows? I think we had a rough, rough run on that one.”

Golding was also asked for his thoughts on returning to play Snake Eyes again, and he didn’t hesitate to jump in, “I’d love to. I think there’s so much potential.” He continued, “It’s such a great character and such a great universe.” He also knows how popular the G.I. Joe franchise is and how passionate its fans are. He is also campaigning for its return, even if it’s without him. “I do hope they bring it back for the fans, you know? I don’t have to be in there.” Textbook selflessness from Golding, who is one of the brightest up-and-coming actors in Hollywood right now.

Henry Golding Teamed With Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson for One of His Biggest Movies

Just last year, Henry Golding teamed up with Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the WWII action movie from director Guy Ritchie. The film is currently streaming on Starz, and it’s remained one of the most popular movies on the streamer for months now. Golding can be seen as Freddy Alvarez in the film, which also stars Cary Elwes and Eiza González. Golding is also known for his roles as Nick Young in Crazy Rich Asians and Dry Eye in The Gentlemen.

Details about the planned Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover are sparse at this time. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
