Fans of My Hero Academia are preparing to witness the end of an era. The anime story that has already become a shonen classic is gearing up to debut its final season, and after much anticipation, the first trailer of the final season just dropped. Season 8 of the series will bring the saga of Izuku Midoriya (voiced by Daiki Yamashita in the original Japanese and by Justin Briner in the English dub) and Class 1-A to a climactic close, and it all starts rolling out this October.
There’s a lot of ground for My Hero Academia to cover with its final episodes. A couple of months ago, the franchise teased the return of Armored All Might (Kenta Miyake/Christopher Sabat), which signals his final showdown with All For One (Hiroshi Kamiya/John Swasey). The trailer reveals that the last season of the anime series will be chock-full of thrilling moments and more of the fights and conflicts that we love so much in the story. Fans will also be glad to know that Crunchyroll will continue to release new episodes simultaneously with the Japanese debut.
Of course, the My Hero Academia trailer doesn’t give away everything all at once. Fans still have four months ahead of them until the episodes start rolling out, and one of the events that will celebrate the anime series’ legacy is the upcoming Anime Expo in July. At the celebration, TOHO animation will host a panel entitled “My Hero Academia Special Event,” which will unveil thrilling previews, exclusive behind-the-scenes stories, and rare insight into the conclusion of the globally beloved series. The panel will feature both Deku voice actors, Yamashita and Briner. Attendees will also get to see a special message from franchise creator Kōhei Horikoshi, who will give them an exciting and heartfelt sendoff to celebrate the beginning of the end.
The Wait For ‘My Hero Academia’ Season 8 Won’t Be Too Hard
Despite the four-month wait, fans of My Hero Academia can’t complain. While waiting for Season 8, they have the next best thing to keep them entertained — the spin-off series My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. Aside from bringing an exciting new group of characters to the MHA universe, the series also has direct connections with the main series, with several cameos and a surprising origin story from one of the franchise’s villains.
Aside from the ongoing spin-off, no additional titles have been announced to continue the My Hero Academia legacy. The series has plenty of potential for additional spin-offs, and it wouldn’t be surprising if more got announced down the line. For now, however, we just have to focus on the flagship series’ final arcs.
