Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man helped introduce Peter Parker to a generation of fans. The Sam Raimi films are still beloved to this day, and now fans can experience the trilogy in theaters once more with a new event! Titled “Fathom Fan Favorites: Spider-Man Trilogy,” the event is set for this September and includes the release of Spider-Man 2.1, which is an extended cut of the beloved Spider-Man 2, starring Alfred Molina as Doc Ock. It is in 4K and includes 8 minutes of extra footage and extended scenes. The entire event is the first time the trilogy has been together since April of last year, but it is the first time Spider-Man 2.1 will have a theatrical release.
The Fathom event comes after Maguire appeared in Tom Holland‘s third Sony/Marvel Studios film, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Maguire played the same Peter Parker from the Raimi films and even gave fans hints about what happened between his Peter and Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst). The event starts with screenings of Spider-Man starting on September 26. Then, Spider-Man 2.1 will be released on September 27, with the less beloved Spider-Man 3 hitting theaters on September 28. You can catch the trilogy again in October with the films screening on October 3, October 4, and October 5, respectively.
“The success of Spider-Man in 2002 helped launch the modern era of super hero films. To this day, Tobey Maguire’s take on Spider-Man resonates across generations,” said Ray Nutt, Fathom Entertainment’s chief executive officer in a press release. “At Fathom Entertainment, we celebrate fandom and I am delighted that Spider-Man 2.1 in 4K will make its theatrical debut, a true gift for longtime fans and a thrilling discovery for new ones.”
The ‘Spider-Man’ That Started It All
When it comes to Peter Parker, there is plenty of discourse over which actor is the best Spidey. You can also change your mind; if you were once a Maguire fan but love what Holland is doing, that’s okay. Others still love Andrew Garfield‘s take on the character. But all of that wouldn’t even be a discussion if it wasn’t for the success of Raimi’s Spider-Man movies. They helped to bring audiences to theaters, midnight screenings were sold out, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe probably would not exist in the way it does if it wasn’t for what Raimi and Maguire did. And now you can experience the magic in theaters this September!
