It’s almost the happiest time of the year for fandoms — time to return to San Diego Comic Con! With less than a month to go before the San Diego Convention Center opens its doors, don’t wait a second longer to plan your weekend. Comic-Con is a behemoth, and it’s almost impossible to experience everything. As one of the world’s largest entertainment conventions on the globe, it’s paramount that you know how to prioritize your time spent to make the most of your trip. As always, Collider is going to be on the ground, up close and personal with all that SDCC has to offer, but we’re also going to be hitting Hall H with our “Directors on Directing” panel, where we’ll be inviting two acclaimed filmmakers for an in-depth conversation on the behind-the-scenes of moviemaking.
From July 24–27, thousands of con-goers are going to hit the floor for booths of unparalleled merchandise, massive installations for some of this year’s most anticipated movies and television series, comics, games, and epic panels where studios will make exciting announcements, share sneak peeks, and some of your favorite stars will sit down for exclusive Q&As. On Thursday, July 24, at 2:45 p.m., kick off the con with Collider’s editor-in-chief, Steve Weintraub, and our esteemed guests.
Joining us on the panel for SDCC 2025 will be directors Rob Reiner (This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, Misery, When Harry Met Sally, and upcoming Spinal Tap II) and Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, A Simple Favor, Jackpot!, The Housemaid, and creator of Freaks and Geeks). If you haven’t had the chance to catch one of our “Directors on Directing” panels, it’s an opportunity to go behind the scenes with some of Hollywood’s major players for a wide-ranging discussion on all the inner workings of a blockbuster movie production from the visionaries themselves. Attendees will learn about projects past, present, and future, plus some exclusive footage and surprises.
Past guests include Antoine Fuqua (The Equalizer trilogy, Training Day), Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow), Jon Watts (Cop Car, MCU Spider-Man Trilogy, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew), Tim Miller (Deadpool, Terminator: Dark Fate, creator of Love, Death + Robots), Gareth Edwards (Star Wars: Rogue One, The Creator, Jurassic World Rebirth), Radio Silence (Ready or Not, Scream 5 and 6, Abigail), David Leitch (Atomic Blonde, Bullet Train, The Fall Guy), and more.
Meet the “Directors on Directing”
At this year’s SDCC, Collider is honored to invite directors Rob Reiner and Paul Feig to Hall H, where we’ll hear stories from the sets of some of our all-time favorite films, in addition to discussing upcoming projects the duo have in the works.
Rob Reiner began his Hollywood career in front of the camera, making appearances in iconic series like The Andy Griffith Show, That Girl, and The Beverly Hillbillies before landing a recurring role as Michael Stivic in All in the Family. While on the series, Reiner worked tirelessly on what would one day become one of the most successful mockumentaries of all time with This Is Spinal Tap. Soon after, Reiner went on to helm a handful of Hollywood’s most unforgettable feature films, from the Stephen King adaptation of Stand by Me, to the epic adventure fairy tale The Princess Bride, to 1989’s rom-com staple When Harry Met Sally, to yet another wildly successful King adaptation with Misery. Now, 41 years since This Is Spinal Tap changed the genre, Reiner is working on the sequel, Spinal Tap II.
Paul Feig also started out as an actor with a walk-on in The Facts of Life before appearing in Roseanne, Disney’s Heavyweights, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Feig went on to create one of the late ’90s’ most beloved series with only one season, Freaks and Geeks, opening the door to becoming a renowned comedic filmmaker. After directing for television series like Arrested Development, The Office, and Weeds, Feig made the world laugh with the star-studded Bridesmaids, going on to establish his comedic flair in The Heat, Spy, 2016’s Ghostbusters, A Simple Favor, and most recently the follow-up, Another Simple Favor, bringing back both Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. Currently, Feig is in post-production for his upcoming thriller starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar, The Housemaid.
You don’t want to miss out on this one, so join us on July 24 in Hall H. You can check out last year’s “Directors on Directing” panel below with Antoine Fuqua and Roland Emmerich.
