It makes sense that three years will have passed since The Terminal List‘s release on Prime Video before the show’s prequel spin-off, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, debuts next month. Star Chris Pratt is a busy man, with a host of big-budget franchise films to lead and cartoon characters to voice. In the years since The Terminal List came out, Pratt has voiced the main character in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide, and has starred in the hit Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which made over $850 million worldwide. Now, his action-thriller streaming series is witnessing a bump in interest, days after the spin-off unveiled its first trailer.
According to FlixPatrol, The Terminal List was the eighth-most-watched Prime Video show in the United States on July 3. It repeated the feat on July 2, earning 19 points in total on each day. The Prime Video chart was led by Countdown, followed by We Are Liars, The Chosen, The Better Sister, and The Summer I Turned Pretty. Globally, We Are Liars remained the number one Prime Video show. While dad-television was always a home video favorite, there has been a visible resurgence of the “genre” in recent years. The Terminal List was one of the pioneers, paving the way for programming such as Reacher, and Taylor Sheridan‘s entire oeuvre over on Paramount+.
In The Terminal List, which is executive produced by the prolific Antoine Fuqua, Pratt plays a Navy SEAL who returns from a tour with a confused recollection of what happened to him and his platoon. The show opened to mostly mixed reviews, and currently holds a “rotten” 40% score on Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics’ consensus reads, “While Chris Pratt fully commits himself to the The Terminal List‘s mission, this thriller’s unrelenting gruffness is no meat and all potatoes.”
‘The Terminal List’ Franchise Is Set to Expand
Despite the so-so rating, the show was a hit among audiences, who gave it an excellent 94% score on the aggregator website. A similar disconnect between audiences and critics was observed in fellow dad-content The Accountant 2, A Working Man, and The Amateur — all three movies have also proven to be extremely popular on streaming. Also starring Taylor Kitsch and Constance Wu, The Terminal List is available on Prime Video. The spin-off will debut in August. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
