With Season 27 of Big Brother fast approaching, a few contestants from recent seasons of the reality competition show had advice for the new batch of houseguests. Surprisingly, it had nothing to do with the game. Quinn Martin pointed out some interesting facts about sequester, hopefully reaching the ears of potential houseguests, which led other alums to chime in as well.
Big Brother has been airing on CBS for 25 years. There is no shortage of past contestants and no shortage of advice, especially with so many of them active in reality television communities on social media. As potential Season 27 contestants wait for the start of the season, they are likely wondering what the house will be like and planning how to make it far in the game. However, there is something they likely hadn’t considered: keeping themselves distracted and fighting off the boredom in sequester.
Some Entertainment Is More Valuable Than Others on ‘Big Brother’
Although there are many aspects of the game that alums have weighed in on over the years, Martin had nothing to say about strategy when he shared his advice for new houseguests. Martin took to TikTok to let incoming contestants know that while they are in sequester, there are some dos and don’ts to make their time easier. Martin told potential houseguests that, although the sequel is in good condition, the first live-action Scooby-Doo DVD was scratched up. That’s right, Martin thought the DVDs during the sequester were the most valuable, and it seems like other houseguests had a lot to say about it as well.
Season 26 first-boot Matt Hardeman, better known for dating runner-up Makensy Manbeck or his feud with Angela Murray, chimed into the conversation as well. In the comments of Martin’s post, Hardeman advised potential houseguests not to try to binge Game of Thrones either. The reason was not because Game of Thrones might give houseguests unrealistic expectations of the game or that there would not be enough time to watch the whole show. No, Hardeman said that vital episodes were missing. Also in Martin’s comments, Season 25’s America Lopez, who is about to debut on the next season of The Challenge, complained that The Other Guys was also scratched and unwatchable. With so many alumni speaking up, it is clear that Big Brother needs to buy some new DVDs.
Sequestering Is Important to ‘Big Brother’
Although Martin’s advice may seem silly to many fans, it could prove valuable to incoming houseguests. Sequester is a vital part of Big Brother. Before the season airs or the cast list is revealed, Big Brother confines potential houseguests to a hotel room, denying them access to their phones, the internet, and streaming services. Sequester ensures that they are not influenced by the outside world or given the ability to pre-game. Big Brother also takes sequester very seriously. As long-time superfans might know, Brandon Showalter, who was meant to be on Season 4, allegedly attempted to reach out to friends outside during the initial sequester and was immediately removed from the cast. However, potential houseguests are provided with some entertainment while they wait, making the transition smoother, although the DVD collection is leading to more frustration than entertainment in some cases.

Other Former ‘Big Brother’ Houseguests Have Given Valuable Advice
Although Martin’s sequester advice may be valuable to those hoping to catch up with Scooby and the gang before they enter the Big Brother house, other alums have given advice over the years about different aspects of the game. Although not everyone gets a chance to be on Big Brother, future houseguests and alternates should know what to expect going into sequester and, later, the game.
Recently, Taylor Hale, the winner of Big Brother Season 24, shared casting advice on her social media page. Similarly, over a decade ago, Season 12 jury member Matt Hoffman published his method of getting cast. Season 26’s Lisa Weintraub made a joke just a few days ago on social media about the incoming houseguests needing to prepare to bring edible glitter, which had contributed to her eviction. There are rules for incoming houseguests to deal with that they may forget, but fortunately, there is a whole host of past players happy to remind them.
According to the Big Brother Instagram page, a new cast may currently be in sequester. Hopefully, either the cast saw Martin’s video and learned which DVDs to avoid, or the producers saw Martin’s video and splurged on some new movies. After an explosive last season, Season 27 will have to work hard to impress fans, and they are likely thinking about how to do that right now.
Big Brother 27 premieres on July 10 on CBS.
