Fantasy-based anime has remained popular in the past few years, including Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Released in 2023, Season 1 was able to compete with other big-name titles, such as Solo Leveling. As fans wait for Season 2 to come out, they can now bring a piece of this anime home thanks to Funko.
The figure collectible company has announced its Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End collection, featuring five figures and a rare chase figure. The regular Pop! figures include Frieren, Fern, Himmel, and Stark. Meanwhile, Frieren gets an additional figure – her being eaten by a Mimic. The chase figure in this set is for Himmel, as there is a 1 in 6 chance fans could get an alternate figure – a statue of his likeness with a Blue-Moon Weed flower crown from Episode 2. These figures range between $12 to $15. While they’re unavailable for pre-order on the Funko website, they can be ordered on third-party sites like Entertainment Earth, with an estimated arrival date of July 2025.
What Is ‘Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End’ About?
Based on the 2020 manga by Kanehito Yamada, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a fantasy anime that takes place after the defeat of the Demon King. Frieren parted ways with her friends, with plans to reunite in 50 years to watch the Era Meteor Showers. But upon her return, she noticed that things had changed, and her friends had aged due to their short lifespans. Following the death of Himmel, Frieren expresses guilt for not knowing her friends better. Under the request of her other party members, tagged alongside Frieren is Fern, an orphan with the potential to become a proper mage.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End finished airing its first season on March 22, 2024, with 28 episodes. The series earned a high MyAnimeList score of 9.30, a perfect critics’ score of 100%, and a high audience score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, it received numerous accolades, including 20 nominations at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and won four of them, including Best Drama. It lost to Solo Leveling for Anime of the Year. Following its success, Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has been greenlit.
