Benny Blanco Reveals Why Performing Live Is His Worst Nightmare
Benny Blanco is one of today’s most revered artists in music. Although he is only 37 years old, his prolific career spans well over 18 years. He is responsible for many of the hit songs of the 2000s, such as “Diamonds” by Rihanna, “Same Old Love” by Selena Gomez, and “All in My Head” by Fifth Harmony. The eleven-time Grammy-nominated artist released his joint album, I Said I Love You First, with fiancée Selena Gomez in March 2025. Recently, Blanco made a rather startling revelation about his music career in conjunction with his new joint album. During a recent interview on the Hot Hits with Nic & Loren podcast, when asked if he had any plans to perform alongside Gomez for a live show to promote the album, Blanco gave an emphatic no. “That’s like my worst nightmare,” he replied. “Doing live shows… like anytime I had to do SNL (Saturday Night Live) or like AMAs (American Music Awards) I’m always just like, “When’s it over? When’s it over?'”

Blanco then added. “I just want to be home on my couch.” When the hosts joked that Blanco could sit on the couch at home while Gomez sang, Blanco replied, “Honestly, not a bad idea guys.” Gomez has a similar sentiment to Blanco when it comes to performing and spending time with Blanco. “Oh yeah, [We] have the best time. I’m more of an introvert that can be an extrovert,” said Gomez in an interview with Interview Magazine, “but the obligation has to be there. So it’s nice to have someone who balances that out and gets me out of the house.”
The notoriously private couple, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, have surprised and delighted fans by opening up more about their relationship. However, recently, Benny Blanco made a rather startling admission about the future of their married life, which raised eyebrows among some of Gomez’s legions of fans. I’m just dreaming and praying every day.” This isn’t the first time Blanco has been open about his desire to have kids and be a father. Blanco’s words have courted a great deal of controversy as Gomez has been vocal about her health issues in the past. For example, in 2013, she was diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disorder that attacks healthy tissues and organs. Gomez has always been candid about her struggle with the disease, revealing that same year that the reason she had to cancel her tour was due to her illness and treatment. “I was diagnosed with Lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke,” she said. In 2017, Gomez also underwent a kidney transplant as a result of her Lupus. In addition to her physical health issues, Gomez has also been vocal about her battle with mental health, which includes depression and anxiety as a result of her illness.
According to an interview with Vanity Fair, Gomez revealed that she couldn’t carry children. She added, “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.” Bearing in mind Gomez’s health and pregnancy issues, Blanco got significant backlash for his comments on having kids. One user wrote on X regarding an article about it, “Saying this when you know your fiancé can’t get pregnant is EVIL.” Another user wrote, “Kind of weird thing to say after she’s come out about her struggles.” However, Gomez has since revealed that she is open to other avenues of having children. “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone,” she said. “I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.”
