Before ‘X,’ Ti West Made an Underrated Horror Gem That You Can Soon Get on 4K Blu-Ray

When it comes to influential modern horror filmmakers, Ti West is usually towards the top of genre fans’ favorite directors list. That’s because of his recent X trilogy that was composed of the Mia Goth-starring X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. However, West has been a creative visionary for over the last two decades. With that, one of his lesser-known cult classics is finally coming to 4K.

The Innkeepers is coming to the premium format in a stunningly haunted 4K box set from Second Sight Films. This 2011 ghost story features brand-new artwork by Nick Charge of star Sara Paxton (Return to Halloweentown) investigating a spooky hotel. However, there’s a ghost ready to make her night a living hell. The blue color tones that match the film’s original marketing palette also make this cover pop with eerie delight. This edition comes with a new 4K transfer approved by West alongside a handful of new special features. This includes an interview with West titled “A Lasting Memory”, an interview with star Pat Healy titled “Let’s Make This Good”, an interview with producer Larry Fessenden titled “Our Dysfunctional World,” and more.

A Haunting Modern Ghost Story

The bonuses just don’t stop on the disc. Like all Second Sight box sets, this edition comes in a rigid slipcase, has a new 120 behind-the-scenes book, and includes six collectors’ art cards. The Innkeepers also now joins West’s other underrated gem, The House of the Devil, in Second Sight’s collection. Over the last few years, the UK boutique label has added modern horror masterpieces like The Witch, You’re Next, and It Follows alongside genre classics like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to their ever-growing catalog.

As for the film itself, The Innkeepers follows two employees (Paxton and Healy) of a local New England hotel that’s supposedly very haunted. When they team up to investigate the place, they get more than they bargain for. This is a horror story that combines modern haunted house thrills with a comedic funny bone, which only makes West’s signature vintage atmosphere punch that much harder. With a certified-fresh 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, this is a film that every genre fan should check in for at least one night of scares.
