Disney has been slowly and steadily changing its streaming content strategy in the past few years. R-Rated content is proving quite popular on the streamer with films like Deadpool & Wolverine, John Wick franchise, and such frequently topping the charts. Continuing its streak the giant has added two new R-rated movies for fans just in time for spooky season.
Per Comic Book, Alien: Romulus and 28 Weeks Later have been added to the Disney+ roster. The standalone sequel to Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later has made it in time to the streamer, given the third movie in the franchise, 28 Years Later, is entertaining fans in theatres. For audiences looking to refresh their memory before watching the new movie starring Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, this is the right time to binge on streaming.
28 Weeks Later, directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, was a critical and commercial hit back in 2007. The movie starring Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, and more was loved for its fantastic atmosphere, gory violence, and punchy direction. Set in the aftermath of 28 Days Later, six months after the initial outbreak in Britain, some sort of normalcy is found till the virus is found again in one of the refugees and this time around its more dangerous. It has a 73 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and garnered $72.3 million at the box office.
What’s ‘Alien: Romulus’ About?
Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus breathed new life into the franchise and reinvigorated fans’ interest in the creature feature franchise. The movie invokes nostalgia with its story set between Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). We follow a group of six downtrodden space colonists, who encounter hostile creatures while scavenging a space station from which they plan to navigate to another planet. The movie was a commercial and critical success as fans cheered the return of facehuggers and Xenomorphs.
The film grossed $350.9 million worldwide and even bagged an Oscar nomination in the Best Visual Effects category. The movie has an 80 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating, while fans were more generous with an 85 percent rating. The film has an ensemble cast including Cailee Spaeny as Rain, David Jonsson as Andy, Archie Renaux as Tyler Harrison, Isabela Merced as Kay Harrison, Spike Fearn as Bjorn, and Aileen Wu as Navarro.
