Despite Solo Leveling being at the forefront of a trend of new anime series, not every manhwa adaptation has been welcomed with open arms by fans. Earlier this year, The Beginning After The End debuted on screens all over the world, but with every episode fans got more and more frustrated with it. Despite the commotion, Crunchyroll announced this week that the anime series has been renewed for Season 2, with the new episodes coming in 2026.
The news is a bit of a surprise considering that the popularity of the anime series only seemed to drop over time. At the same time, a renewal might signal to fans that the production team has heard the complaints and will address them with the newer episodes. We do have to consider, however, that animation is usually done years in advance, so there is also a chance that Season 2 was in the works way before fan backlash – which might mean that new episodes will look exactly the same. In any case, The Beginning After The End is getting a rare second chance to wow its viewers when it returns.
Fans’ biggest complaint about The Beginning After The End is that the series’ animation is lackluster, to say the least. The action sequences in particular are called out by fans as “barely animated.” By the time that Episode 2 rolled out, the fan base had already organized itself to form an online petition asking for an immediate reboot and start it all from scratch, in a similar manner to what happened with the first Sonic movie back in 2019. At the time of writing this article, the online petition has gathered over 50,000 signatures.
What Is ‘The Beginning After the End’ About?
The Beginning After The End is an isekai adventure – meaning that it’s the type of story that takes its protagonist to another world – in which a king dies and is reborn in a magical land. Once there, he learns magic and the value of creating his own path. The series is brought to life by animation company Studio A-CAT, which also produced Highspeed Étoile and Transformers: Energon. Different from traditional anime series, The Beginning After the End is adapted from a manhwa, which is the South Korean equivalent to manga. Manhwa stories are on the rise and becoming increasingly popular all over the world. Aside from the mega-hit Solo Leveling, other anime adapted from manhwa include Tower of God, Lookism and The Boxer.
The Beginning After the End rolls out its last episode this month. You can stream the anime series on Crunchyroll. Season 2 is slated to premiere in 2026, but a specific release window is yet to be announced.
