Did James Gunn Just Endorse This ‘Andor’ Star, 33, as His Wonder Woman?

James Gunn may have just dropped the biggest hint yet about who could be donning the tiara and lasso in the DC Universe’s future. The Superman writer-director and DC Studios co-head addressed growing speculation about whether Andor star Adria Arjona, 32, might be next in line to play Wonder Woman — and while it’s not a confirmation, it’s certainly sounding like an endorsement. In a new interview with Extra, Gunn was asked about following Arjona on social media — a seemingly innocent act that immediately sent fans into a frenzy.

“I follow Adria on Instagram but everybody came out [and said], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman. She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”

The two go way back. Arjona starred in The Belko Experiment, a 2016 thriller written and produced by Gunn, and directed by Greg McLean. It was one of Arjona’s first major studio roles — and her bond with Gunn clearly stuck.

She was in a movie that I made seven years ago,” Gunn said. “We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.”

Arjona, for her part, commented on the buzz earlier this year while speaking to CinemaBlend, stating that she “loves” Gunn for giving her the first movie role of her career, and that she owed him a lot for her career. When asked if Gunn’s follow meant anything, she only smiled and replied, “I don’t know,” before crossing her fingers.

When Will We See James Gunn’s Wonder Woman?

Whether or not Arjona gets the nod, one thing is clear: Gunn’s Wonder Woman reboot is moving ahead. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is “being written right now” — separate from the HBO prequel series Paradise Lost, which focuses on the Amazons of Themyscira and remains in early development.

“It’s slow moving, but it’s moving,” Gunn said of Paradise Lost, clarifying that “Wonder Woman has not yet been cast.”

Gunn has emphasized the centrality of four heroes in shaping the new DCU — Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman — and he hinted that Diana Prince’s time is coming soon.

“Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we’re dealing with the other two.”
