It has been over a decade since the premiere of MTV’s supernatural romance, Teen Wolf, but Dylan O’Brien still holds the project close to his heart. A modern reboot of the Michael J. Fox film of the same name, Teen Wolf follows Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) one fateful night after a werewolf bites him. His romance with the daughter of a werewolf hunter, Allison Argent (Crystal Reed), was the crux of the drama, but many will recall that the series wouldn’t have been what it was without O’Brien. In his first official role, the actor played Scott’s best friend, Stiles, who had some of the best quotes and was the heart of the show. Even now, O’Brien still has the classic Beatles shirt Stiles wears in the first episode of the series, as he told Entertainment Weekly.
“That job will always be near and dear to me. I still wear my t-shirt on every job. I bring a t-shirt that was the first one I ever wore on screen as an actor in my career. I still have it. As a little tradition, I wear it to my first day of shooting on every job,” O’Brien told the outlet.
The first episode of Teen Wolf kicks off when Stiles, whose father is the sheriff, learns that there is a dead body in the woods. He coerces Scott to go look with him, and the resulting supernatural circumstances ensue. For a time, Stiles is the only person who knows that Scott is a werewolf and was even the one who figured it out even before his best friend. There would be no Teen Wolf without the acting chops of the underrated actor.
The Love of ‘Teen Wolf’ Follows Dylan O’Brien Everywhere
Teen Wolf changed Dylan O’Brien’s career for the better, which may explain the actor’s attachment to the article of clothing. In fact, he was terrified one day when the shirt was carried away by the wind.
“I thought I lost it,” O’Brien told Entertainment Weekly. “It was a crazy, windy day, and I’d hang my t-shirt on my shorts like a towel, and it blew away in the wind. I sprinted across the park to retrieve it. I found it in a bush. I’m a super nostalgic person like that, so that would’ve been devastating for me.”
Since his debut role, O’Brien has had a variety of roles from The Maze Runner to the recent HBO film Caddo Lake, but fans will always remember him as the witty and sarcastic Stiles. The actor expressed gratitude to the fanbase, even though he was noticeably absent from the most recent reunion.
“It’s amazing that that show still gets so seen by young people, that was a tiny little engine that could when it first started,” O’Brien said. “We never thought we’d get a full season, let alone the staying power it has. I’ll always be grateful for that in my life.”
Many may have thought his love for the property may have dimmed because he did not appear in the 2023 Teen Wolf film follow-up that even brought back Crystal Reed in the role of Allison Argent. However, by all accounts, this had to do with scheduling conflicts and nothing more. Fans can still watch all episodes of Teen Wolf streaming on Hulu and Amazon Prime.
