Fans of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners have had to wait so long that, for a while, it started to feel like the Netflix animated series was a one-and-done kind of deal. Back in 2024, though, the streamer announced that fans could get ready to return to Night City — but not much information has been unveiled ever since. This is about to change, as the series’ official Twitter account suddenly sprang back to life this week to tease fans. The social media post indicated that the franchise will be one of the titles with exciting news during this year’s Anime Expo.
Is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners getting a Season 2? Will the Cyberpunk franchise get a spiritual sequel, maybe? Or perhaps a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners movie? For now, we can only speculate, but fortunately Anime Expo is just around the corner, and we will find out what is coming our way in the first week of July. We do have to keep in mind that the series works as a standalone feature, so the possibility of a new announcement that is not directly connected with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners wouldn’t be unlikely.
It’s no wonder that any news about Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is greatly appreciated by fans: the anime series managed to land a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which made it one of 2024’s must-watch animated series. The project hails from Studio Trigger, the animation company that brought titles like Little Witch Academia and Kill la Kill to life. The series was praised for its imaginative setting and high-octane action sequences that evoke everything from The Matrix Reloaded to Akira.
What Other Anime Series Will Get New Announcements At Anime Expo?
This year’s Anime Expo is gearing up to be one of the most anticipated ever. There are several anime series whose fans are eagerly waiting to find out more about, and it looks like a lot of franchises will take this opportunity to fire them up. One of the biggest is Jujutsu Kaisen: fans have been on the lookout for news regarding Season 3 of the highly popular supernatural series for almost two years, and the new episodes still don’t have a release window.
Additional titles that will get segments at the event include Demon Slayer, The Rising of the Shield Hero, The Summer Hikaru Died, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, The Apothecary Diaries, Kaiju No.8, and others. Anime Expo takes place from July 3 to 6 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
