What door will Big Brother open this season? Season 27 of the iconic reality show, Big Brother is fast approaching, and like every season, CBS is teasing fans with some interesting photos. CBS dropped a photo of Julie Chen Moonves sitting in front of a wall of keys. Although not much has been revealed about the upcoming Big Brother season, fans are speculating about the theme.
Big Brother has been locking people in a house for nearly 25 years. Every season has a new theme or twist, some notable ones being last season’s AI Arena, Season 8’s Rivals, or Season 14’s coaches. Contestants compete for power and manipulate their way through the season. With last season being one of the best in a long time, Season 27 has a lot to live up to.
Old Keys Could Mean Old Houseguests
Keys are nothing new in Big Brother, but these are not like regular houseguest keys. The keys in the promo photo are vintage-looking, possibly for an old chest or door. On the official Big Brother TikTok account, the image has a backing track with the Season 2 opening song. With the old keys and a reference to an early season, some fans believe that Big Brother 27 is going to have returning cast members. Although Season 22 was an All-Star season, this would not be the first time that Big Brother has brought back previous houseguests, often with a new cast.
The old keys are not the only reason fans believe that there will be returning houseguests. Big Brother has always been a sister, or well, a brother, to another CBS reality show, Survivor. Survivor has been grabbing headlines with the star-studded returning cast for Season 50 in celebration of their 25th anniversary. Big Brother is also turning 25 this year and may celebrate with fan-favorite houseguests as well. However, there are two pieces of evidence that this may not be the case. The first is that while Survivor has been promoting its returning cast a year in advance, Big Brother has barely started promoting Season 27. CBS has also previously stated that there would be a brand-new cast of houseguests, which seems to imply that there are no returning contestants.
Could We See a ‘Big Brother’ Murder-Mystery?
Another possibility that has been speculated about is that Season 27 will have a murder-mystery theme. Previous winner Taylor Hale claimed on social media how excited she would be if the season’s theme were a murder-mystery. This post led fans to respond with similar excitement. Another reality show that has been gaining fans rapidly is The Traitors, a murder-mystery competition set in an old Scottish castle. Big Brother players have been gaining new fans from being on The Traitors, so why can’t Big Brother do the same? Big Brother may be trying to use The Traitors’ popularity to boost its own ratings.
Of course, there will be many other mysteries to be unlocked in Big Brother. From Pandora’s box to secret rooms, contestants and fans should always “expect the unexpected” from Big Brother. Julie told Entertainment Weekly that “the keys to unlocking unexpected mysteries in the Big Brother house are right in front of you!” Fans will continue to speculate until the premiere of Big Brother Season 27.

‘Big Brother’ Is Adding a New Series
CBS has announced a new series, which will air every other Friday, called Big Brother: Unlocked. The show will feature some fan-favorite past houseguests and offer fans extra, behind-the-scenes footage from the house, along with other surprises. The description on Paramount+’s website claims that Big Brother: Unlocked will have all-stars providing “insight and expertise on Season 27 gameplay.” This extra show is similar to other aftershows, such as Jeff Probst’s podcast On Fire With Jeff Probst or Love Island‘s Aftersun. Perhaps the keys only reference Big Brother: Unlocked, but fans are hopeful for more.
Every year, fans watch promotional content roll in and try to guess what’s to come. But more often than not, the show finds a way to flip the script; Big Brother loves to mess with fans just as much as the show wants to surprise the contestants. The promotional photo is just their way of reminding fans that Big Brother does manipulation the best.
