3 Underrated Hulu Movies to Watch This Weekend (June 20-22)

Hulu is the premium destination to watch new and classic movies starring some of the most famous actors working right now. After all, where can you watch Jenna Ortega dodge Ghostface in 2022’s Scream or Jim Carrey yuck it up in The Mask?

Those movies are widely liked, but what about other films in Hulu’s library that don’t get the love they deserve?

Watch With Us has compiled a brief list of three underrated movies you should watch this weekend. They feature such stars as Liam Neeson and Lucy Liu and are guaranteed to provide several hours of high-quality entertainment.

‘Absolution’ (2024)

Does the world need another Liam Neeson action movie? The answer is always yes. Neeson excels in the “old guy getting revenge” action thriller, and Absolution is the newest entry into that subgenre’s canon. Neeson stars as Thug, a former boxer-turned-mob-enforcer who discovers he has a neurodegenerative disease that is wiping out his memory. With the clock ticking, Thug tries to reconcile with his estranged daughter and grandson while preparing for one last crime score before retiring.

Absolution has plenty of action, but it’s more effective as a drama about a man with few options left in life. Thug has plenty of regrets about the choices he made in life, and he’ll do anything to make up for them. It’s this desperation that fuels Absolution‘s tense third act, when Thug’s good intentions crash into reality. Not everyone gets a happy ending, and Thug realizes that there are some sins no one can forgive.

‘And Then We Danced’ (2019)

Mareb (Levan Gelbakhiani) is a talented ballet dancer training at the National Georgian Ensemble in Europe. He’s disturbed by the arrival of a new dancer, Iraki (Bachi Valishvili), who quickly takes his place as the most popular member of the troupe. But their rivalry soon develops into something more unexpected and intimate, and soon, Mareb will have to reevaluate his engagement to fiancée Mary (Ana Javakhishvili) and his commitment to a profession that looks down on being different.

And Then We Danced is a ballet drama, and if that sounds stuffy, relax — it’s actually quite lively. It offers a fascinating portrait of Eastern European society and an art form that’s rarely seen on screen nowadays. Male ballet movies pretty much begin and end with Billy Elliot with Jamie Bell, but take a chance on this one. It’s more mature, riskier and better than that classic, and it has an unexpected ending that will leave a big smile on your face.

‘Presence’ (2025)

Audiences slept on this terrific horror movie when it was released earlier this year, and now’s the perfect time to catch it for some summertime scares. The Payne family just moved into their new home, so it makes sense that they feel a little unsettled. Chloe (Callina Liang), the family’s teenage daughter, is particularly spooked, and with good reason — there’s a spirit haunting the house and she suspects it’s her recently deceased friend, Nadia. No one believes her, of course, but there’s a presence looming over all of them, and Chloe has to find out why it’s haunting them before it’s too late.

Hulu is serious about you renewing your subscription this June. How else can you explain the impressive lineup the streamer has for this month, with a solid mixture of new releases and timeless classics for your viewing pleasure? The big new movie this month is Predator: Killer of Killers, the latest entry in the nearly […]

This sounds like your standard haunted house movie, but it’s not. Director Steven Soderbergh tells the story from the viewpoint of the poltergeist instead of its victims, and the result is an unsettling horror movie where you’re never quite sure you’re believing what you’re seeing — or feeling. Presence is the best kind of horror movie — it’s completely absorbing when you watch it and stays with you after you’ve watched it.
