With the likes of Disney’s 2025 Lilo & Stitch and DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon remake in theaters, the task of having to tackle the current US box office is no mean feat. With that in mind, positive early responses become crucial as word-of-mouth helps to boost ticket sales. Sadly, one of this weekend’s box office debutants has had anything but a positive early response, with Rebel Wilson‘s Bride Hard failing to capture any glowing first reviews.
Because of this, Bride Hard, which was promoted by some as Bridesmaids meets Die Hard, falls far below the bar set by either, earning a poor 27% critics’ score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Although only from 15 reviews to date, this score is likely to stay at a similar level as more are left disappointed by a lackluster comedy with a healthy measure of action. Not even a Pitch Perfect reunion with co-star Anna Camp can seemingly save this movie, although it might help boost its box office chances.
Directed by Con Air‘s Simon West, Bride Hard features a cast that, alongside Wilson and Camp, includes Veep alum Anna Chlumsky, Oscar-winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Stephen Dorff, Smallville‘s Justin Hartley, Gigi Zumbado of The Rookie fame, Being Human‘s Sam Huntington, and more. Written by Shaina Steinberg, from a story by Steinberg and CeCe Pleasants, Bride Hard is West’s second movie of 2025, following his co-directing effort with Li Yifan on The Legend Hunters.
‘Bride Hard’ is “Uninspired” and “Unfunny”
Despite its stacked cast, Bride Hard simply fails to impress on almost every front. In Isabella Soares‘ review of the movie for Collider, she awarded it a dismal 4/10, citing lazy jokes, wasted actors, and a poor resolution as negative factors. “As a whole, West’s uninspired and, quite frankly, unfunny bridal romp isn’t the June wedding you’d hope to attend in even the bleakest of days,” Soares wrote, adding, “With a half-baked script — which doesn’t allow for the film’s stellar ensemble to fully lean into their comedic chops — and lack of character development between best friends Sam and Betsy, you’ll likely want to quit the film mid-watch or pass on the opportunity altogether to see wedding tents, chocolate fountains, and perfectly ornamented flower arrangements get blown up by machine guns.”
Bride Hard hits theaters today. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the latest movies.
