New ‘Kaiju No.8′ Season 2’ Trailer Teases the Arrival of an Even Bigger Monster Threat

Summer can’t come fast enough for fans of Kaiju No.8 Season 2 of the anime is still a month away, but the time is always ripe to tease what sort of thrilling adventures we will see in the new episodes. This week, a new trailer for the anime series was unveiled, and it was the first one to focus on a new and even bigger threat that’s coming to Kafka Hibino (voiced by Masaya Fukunishi in the original Japanese and by Nazeeh Tarsha in the English dub) and the Kaiju Defense Force: a little enemy called Kaiju no.9. The show returns on July 19.

Of course, Kaiju No.9 won’t be the only enemy that Kafka and his friends will face this season. The trailer reveals several powerful foes that the team — now led by Reno Ichikawa (Wataru Kato/Adam McArthur), who promises that “no one dies” on his watch — will have to take on. They include an army of giant fire ants and even a Kaiju that looks a bit abstract. From the looks of it, this season will be even harder on civilians, who will have to flee attacks on a weekly basis — and the Defense Force will have to handle the debris later.

Even though Kaiju No.9 makes only a brief appearance at the end of the trailer, fans of the series already got a taste of him back in Season 1 when it was revealed. This time, however, we will get a full dose of Kaiju No.9 and the quick sneak peek is enough to make us feel that the monster has an intimidating presence and that it will probably be the biggest challenge of the season. His humanoid look isn’t even that threatening, but it’s clear that Kafka and the Defense Force will have a pretty hard time dealing with it.

The End Is Near For ‘Kaiju No.8’… Or Is It?

The timing of the return of Kaiju No.8 is a pretty good one, since fans of the franchise were recently hit with the worst news they could possibly get — the manga series created by Naoya Matsumoto is about to end its run. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the anime series will have a short run, but we know it’s on the horizon, and depending on the arcs that Season 2 covers, we will have an idea of how many seasons the show will need to complete its story.

Kaiju No.8 is one of the most anticipated anime titles of the summer. Earlier this year, the franchise came to movie theaters with the compilation movie Kaiju No.8: Mission Recon, which also unveiled a special episode called “Hoshina’s Day Off,” which you will be able to check out before Season 2 arrives.

Kaiju No.8 Season 2 premieres on July 19. You can check out the trailer above (toggle the English subtitles on).
