The Bravo Dad Everyone’s Talking About on ‘Next Gen NYC’ and Why His Approach Actually Matters

When it comes to parental role models on Bravo, the landscape is quite vast. Because some parents are in precarious situations, it’s hard to see them in full parent mode. We get glimpses every so often, but many of the shows aren’t focused on that storyline. We’ve had some really great mom moments recently, including Denise Richards during Denise Richards and Her Wild Things and Mary M. Cobsy during The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, but rarely do we get spectacular dad moments. Until now.

Next Gen NYC is Bravo’s latest attempt to launch the future of the network. So far, it’s working. Not afraid to shy away from the famous and successful parents in their lives, the series has spotlighted certain relationships between parent and offspring. We’ve seen the moms of Bravo pop up. Now it’s Seth Marks‘ turn. In an adorably awkward pair of scenes during episode three, Seth has given us reason to desire more dads like him on Bravo.

Seth Marks is Bravo Dad Goals

The world was first introduced to Seth Marks via The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. As the devoted husband to Meredith Marks, Seth has had a pretty featured role on the show. The couple has faced some relationship hardships over time, but in the end, there has always been immense love that has emanated. Their children have been featured on and off during the first five seasons, but now that Brooks Marks is starring on Next Gen NYC, it has allowed Seth to show up and be seen in a new light. Once again, the love is present, even if Brooks is completely embarrassed by the words coming out of his dad’s mouth.

After last week’s mommy and me lunch alongside Gia Giudice and her mom, Teresa Giudice, it was time for Seth to hit some balls with his son. At the driving range located at the infamous Chelsea Piers in New York City, we were granted some insight into Seth and Brooks’ relationship. Brooks went to golf lessons, or “golf intensives” as Brooks called them, to please and connect with his father. It happened to work out in his favor because Brooks’ boyfriend, Kade, enjoys the sport. Once Brooks opened up about his partner, it opened up the door for his father to ask questions about his sex life.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, was it awkward? Entirely. But it came from a place of love. After revealing that he does have sex talks with his mom, Seth opined that he wants to have a connection with Brooks in a similar manner. His desire to have a deeper emotional connection with their child, especially if they happen to be gay. In today’s world, listening to Seth’s desire to build upon a strong relationship through emotion is rare. Especially in the queer community. The way he pleaded to earn a connection that replicates one that Brooks has with Meredith was oddly worded, but the sentiment was the true headline. He doesn’t want to see his son’s heart be crushed. Nor his daughter, for that matter, but we’ll get to her shortly.

‘Next Gen NYC’ is a cover version of ‘The Real Housewives,’ and I love everything about it.

Seth Marks Is Trying to Be One of the Kids

Though we only had one father and child chat, there is still another Marks’ kid who is central to the storyline: Chloe Marks. Having been on a date with Charlie Zakkour and then subjected to some commentary from Charlie to Brooks, Seth felt the need to step in and have a heart-to-heart with Charlie, whose own father is a completely different beast. We’ve already met him, but as Charlie speaks to his mom about him, referring to him by his first name, he’s not much of a father figure. Only in a financial and career sense. Brooks gives Seth permission to hang with Charlie, which is awkward too, but we have to wonder: Did Chloe sign off on this? They only went on a date; it’s not like they’re a legit couple. Anyway, it’s the thought that counts, right?

During his chat with Charlie, Seth was launching his future career as a life coach. Charlie, the resident bad boy, knows that he’s longing for someone like Seth in his life. Even if it’s his first time meeting him, he was open to allowing him in. Were there some lines crossed and topics broached? Probably, but Seth’s desire to be there for Charlie is what the scene was all about. Maybe Seth wants to be like the kids. He’s definitely that dad who let the kids have a beer when they were hanging out in the basement, proceeding to pop a squat and drink alongside them. He genuinely wants to be liked. With Charlie, he sees himself in Charlie, so he knows what might happen to his daughter if he lets her be with a bad boy.

To cap off Seth’s debut on Next Gen NYC, he might have subtly come out to Charlie as pansexual. After revealing that his roommate Dylan Geick, was bisexual, Seth asked if that means fluid, to which Charlie said it’s like pan, and then Seth was like that’s what he’s trying to get to. Just don’t tell his wife. What?! Anyway, Happy Pride Marks family! Seth, thank you for representing dads in such a beautiful way. But I have one thing, I beg of you. Coming from someone who didn’t get to have this type of open communication with my dad while he was alive, please, don’t ever ask about the body count!
